Offensive Play Calling!!!

Can you read? ALMOST NONE OF THE WR'S HAD ANY CATCHES....and the ones thrown to Pearson were almost all shallow passes to the flat.

Malone and Williams played, and both were 5* recruits. Pearson was a 4*. You're pretty dense, aren't you?

But what's the logic in passing the ball when running the ball is working to perfection and you know the defense has your back? Seriously, I want to know why passing the ball in tonight's game would have benefited us any more greatly than the W we currently have in our record. Please tell me.

I can read....I was responding to this quote that YOU made. "There is a boat load of talent on the offense". I wouldn't classify our WR depth chart tonight a "boat load of talent". Paul Harris was a 4* too right. Dang he was 6'4....should have been an All-American.

Ever stop to thinks that this was the game plan that the coaches developed ? and it worked ?
- Mizzou's big DT was out
- Our big OLineman was back
- Dobbs is inconsistent passing
- their secondary is good
- There offense cant score , our defense is pretty good
- we like to run a tempo offense ...but tonight we used the clock

Go on ...put it all together . This was the game plan . Run the ball , control the clock , win the turnover margin ( no Dobbs passing ) stop their offense ...win the game .

He has no answer for that kind of logic. He just knows that he throws for 600 yards a game on Madden and it should be that easy in real life. If our WR's are taller than the db's we shouldn't throw an incomplete pass all night. I would hate to live in the world that operates inside his head.

but, but, but....that isn't like it is on his Madden game. For the issues we have dealt with offensively, it is amazing the success we have had. Some people are never happy!

I guess I just want him to really think about what he's complaining about. Not winning enough? Tonight was won on old school football. Run the ball. Score guaranteed points. Play good defense. Limit turnovers. Control the clock. The definition of smash mouth football.

So your response is that the rest of the conference must suck? You are truly clueless.

Here's VolorNuttin listening to somebody speaking truth at him

I'm sorry Paul Harris isn't around any more, but you have to get over it.
I'm sorry you have your head up your arse, but yeah....look around the SEC. A LOT of bad offenses, compared to most of the year. But don't let the facts hit you in the arse. Don't bother to try and compare the stats nationally, and after the crapfest on offense the past 3 weeks, we'll fall back to the bottom of the SEC, too.

Keep your head in the sand and enjoy the 3 and outs drive after drive after drive.

Who wants to bother with those pesky stats. Those stats were current up through this week. We might drop to 4th in points after Miss State tonight, but the fact remains....we are one of the top offenses in the SEC. Gripe, moan, and complain all you want....but facts are facts!

Add to that, we have played 4 of the top Defenses in the NATION (not the SEC).

I'm sorry, I lost track.....Is my head up my arse or in the sand?

Once again. There were only three 3 and outs the whole game. Did we watch the same thing or??

So I guess running the ball for 250 yards against a team that only allows 125 yards a game serves no precedence in this argument at all.

The play calling has got to change, or we will need a new OC if we expect to improve next year.

we lost 4 games . 3 of those games were to 3 of the best teams in the country ...1 of which has the strong possibility of winning it all . The 4th teams seems to be a rising power . We lost those games by a combines 17 points ..or 4.25 points a game

What if we get our O line healthy and allow these young guys another year in the S&C program . What if Dobbs improves his accuracy and decision making ability in the off season ? What if we develop a real DT rotation and the young interior guys continue to develop their strength and ability ?

Will we still need to change our play calling ? Or will having the ability to execute the plays that are called be effective ? What if we run for 280 yards a game and dont throw a pass ...but still win ?

All rhetorical questions . The play calling is fine , it resulted in a win . The plays we did not call probably could not have been executed against this defense and could have led to turnovers that could have cost us the game

He has no concept of facts....because, as you know, stats don't matter.

I agree 100% . The team is very incomplete in many areas but has improved despite that . I am in Smyrna too . I have lived here my whole life . Too much football smarts in one local .

This exactly. Against a top 15 defense and a botom 10 offense, conservative was the way to go tonight.

No sir. PM may suck as a QB coach. I don't know.

We need a dedicated QB coach, though.

I think he might be dedicated
I'm pretty sure there was an interview where he said he wouldn't mind having that position at Tennessee

Offense did much better than I expected.

I thought Missouri's d line would get more pressure on Dobbs and hold the running game in check.

Get just a little better blocking in front of Hurd next season and you're talking possible Heisman candidacy.

Never goes down on first contact, seldom misses taking the proper running lane, solid in pass protection, has enough speed get to the second level, more elusive than a gu his size should be...he is the best RB this program has had in years.

Putting the ball in his hands against one of the most putrid offenses I have seen this year was the right call last night.

I'm enjoying your angst. A vast majority of Vols supporters, some coaches, some very knowledgeable football guru's, and yes, the average fan pretty much agree - UT did what they had to do to win this game. Could the playcalling be different? Sure, but not much different since Butch & Co. wanted to win. Could we have aired it out more? Sure - but what the hell for!!!! When your ground game is potent against a very formidable d-line - you keep pounding the rock. How fricking simple is that to understand. Suck it up buttercup and quit whining about facts you choose to ignore. Ignorance is worse than just plain stupid.

is killing me! Is anyone else seeing the same thing i am seeing?

And why are we so afraid to pass the ball down the field?

Is this a joke? Dobbs can't even throw a screen pass

... Go back on Facebook and complain about the Starbucks red cup because we don't need your negativity.

You can tell who knows football and probably who has played football and understands a game by a lot of these comments.... it's really very silly to think that the coaching staff would work all week and all year with their offense and they would be proficient in the passing game and they're in the game not use it at all that's absurd ! Or maybe they just want to annoy a large part of our Fanbase ....,yeah that's it!!!!😳

What I notice is that we are 4th in the league in scoring (first in the SEC East by a country mile aka 54 POINTS, and still first in the East in scoring in league play when half the East has finished their schedule and we get to clean up on Candy next week). I've heard plenty of griping on here about the offense, but they must be doing something right...
