Offensive Play Calling!!!

3rd raned offense in the SEC
2nd in rushing in the SEC
8th in passing
3rd in points scored (Miss State might pass us in that one after their track meet tonight)

With the injuries to WR's and Oline and how bad the oline has played....I'll take it!

But Debord should be fired

Debord is fricking killing me.
It is totally frustrating watching his calls.
We actually have a better offense than what we are seeing.
Debord sucks. I blame Butch for him being at TN.
While i`m at it, our D secondary still sucks.
248 yds rushing. I'm glad we hired Debord. I love power running. It wears down defenses.

A win is a win is a win. All wins are good not matter how much everyone wants to blow out every team Tenn plays. Tenn offense is always (even next year) going to struggle in the red zone as long as they can't pass the ball more than 3 yards past the line. Yards are tough to come by inside the twenty and without a reasonable passing attack it's really tough. I don't think the lack of passing is DeBord's fault. Tenn just doesn't have a passing game. Whether it is because of the Oline or because of accuracy can be debated. I just think the coaches see the issues every day in practice and they prefer to rely on the running game, defense, and field position game instead of chancing turnovers or incompletes. If you listen to Butch, he continually harps on gaining positive yards on 1st downs. It will probably need to improve quite a bit next year to win the EAST. Really like Dobbs, and hope the Oline is the issue, but after watching 11 games so far, I think he is having accuracy issues. Not the lack of play calling.

Great play, good win, now let's beat bandy. Again, we won. GO VOLS

Think about that statement. We're 11 games in. We know what we've got. What is Deboard supposed to playcall at this point to cover up a passing game that's proven to be weak?. All he can do is lean on the ground game and mix in flares, swings, screens and try to stay in good down and distances.

Other than maybe Florida, tonight was the best defense we'll play all year.
Logic is futile. The problem I often make is that I assume most posters actually understand the game of football.. They don't for the most part. For the most part every complaint thread follows a theme. Someone heard someone say we have a problem with playcalling then every moron armchair QB watches a game and we are not blowing people away and all of a sudden they see the same thing even though playcalling is totally different that game.

Most of these guys are going to complain whether we are blowing everyone out 63-0. Think about it like this we have lost 4 games this season. 2 of those teams are almost definitely gonna be in the playoff (Alabama, Oklahoma). A third could be if they win out (Florida). Arkansas (our "bad" loss) is a much better team than people think.

Given the injuries we have suffered and coped with all year at OL and WR, and on the defensive side also, the results this year have been outstanding. Anyone disappointed in this season outcome is just a UT fan anyone thinking blame needs placing and people need firing is a fool.

We could have won every game on our schedule, in hindsight..... how long has it been since that is something we as UT fans have been able to say that? I am over 40 and can't remember many seasons where no game was out of reach outside of 98 nearly every year had a game where we got whipped. With the possible argument of Arkansas every loss was to a better team that's a fact. We got a win against Georgia which at the time was the better team on paper so it balances out.

Up till this point this season has worked out record-wise just as I figured it would. As far as performance on the field, they have played better than should be expected and we have preserved the most important redshirt in recent history (Richmond). We made a bowl (extra practice). Next year is the end of hearing next year for a long time to come. We will finally have the type of depth it takes to make a legit run at the SEC East/ if recruiting is maintined at or close ot current levels we will be in contention year in year out.

Depth makes playcalling much easier. More healthy WR's will make Dobbs a better passer and people will be surprised at how much more accurate he will be behind a better line and with bigger windows to throw into because the defense is more spread out. Outside of Sutton and Magitt we should take no major losses unless Dobbs and JRM get really bad advice.

Admit it.... You were wrong

Absolutely not!
If we do not improve our passing game and develope a more dynamic offense. We WILL NOT turn the corner and win the sec or even the east next year. We are too predictable.
Yes we beat a talented team, they played extremely flat until the forth.
Happy about the win, but these last two games have definitely not instilled a great deal of confidence.
We may get exposed in a bowl game if we get a decent pick.
You are foolish to think otherwise.... Time will tell.
Would love to be wrong.

I don't mind a close or ugly win as long as the coaches are constantly TRYING to win instead of trying to just escape with a win. If you are going run, run, run and constantly going three and out, don't you finally realize you need to start calling REAL plays and get a first down?

I think that the coaches know what Dobbs accuracy is like and there protecting the team from interceptions

It's been that way for awhile. Deboard may or may not be a good playcaller, but it's nearly impossible to tell right now.

There are lingering concerns about the 2nd half performances (10 points or less in 7 games), red zone offense and the coaching Dobbs is getting.....but I have no major issues with how things went tonight. Got the W and looking for 8 wins.

This team has gone as far as it can go offensively with Dobbs. I love the kid, but I hope he graduates and leaves after this year. He just cannot throw the ball.

Alabama is the most predictable team in the country. Predictability isn't an issue when you have better athletes. That's where we're headed. I hope.

It wasn't all vanilla either. One wrinkle I liked was RB in the pistol running the option. Hurd got the pitch a couple of times going downhill and it was a thing of beauty.

I will say this... if Debord is in any way coaching or mentoring Dobbs on passing, footwork, check downs etc... he needs to stop immediately. And next year they need to get someone on the staff that has QB experience that can save Dobbs.

Kamara made a great play to catch the pitch on his option play. That could have been a disaster.
