Since last summer, I have been trying to convince people the the Oline would not have a great year playing 1st and 2nd year starters... AND THAT DOESN'T MEAN THE THEY WON'T BE AWESOME.

They just needed time to grow up. For example: the best offensive lineman in the country in 2011 DIDN'T EVEN START UNTIL HIS 3rd year! He redshirted as a Freshman.

Our woes had nothing to do with coaching or talent. They are going to be rock solid next year! Here is Rivals five star tracker from 2008

11. USC OT Matt Kalil
Buzz: Kalil moved into USC's starting lineup in 2010 and blossomed into one of the nation's best offensive linemen this season. Kalil earned first-team All-America honors from The Associated Press and Yahoo! Sports/Rivals.com among others. He anchored a line that allowed only eight sacks all season. Kalil will bypass his final year of eligibility to enter the 2012 draft, and he's projected to be the first offensive lineman selected.

If our oline can learn to be "nasty" they can be good. Pass blocking wasnt near as big of a problem as run blocking.

Also I feel when we started running more traps and counters against LSU we kinda found a new gear (which was later abandoned imo). Maybe a new run blocking scheme (instead of zone, more straight bulldozing) can help them move the pile forward.

The O-line will be one of the best in the country this season, and Our RB's will run harder than they have in 3 seasons ( IMO )

Its a hell of a lot easier to hide one (or 2) freshman or sophomore on a line with 4 other upperclassmen. Playing with 4 or 5...against the SEC is suicide. It WILL NOT be pretty under any circumstance.

Call it an excuse or whatever you want, but its true. It should look a lot different this year.

Plus, I'm convinced the RBs (primarily Poole, but a little Lane as well) left a pretty significant amount of yards on the field by missing cutback lanes or just plowing into the line.

I have some fairly high hopes for the OL and RBs (with Graham's help).

I'm not holding my breath. I'll be happy if we see improvement on the field. I'm beyond speculating about it. They'll have to deal with a new coach and possibly new running schemes. But they'll have another year under their belt. Who knows. I'll just wait and see to let them prove it to me.

Pass blocking was definitely not the issue this past year, but the run blocking is a different story..Hopefully this new OL coach can fix this issue.:crossfingers:

I am a little concerned that we haven't picked up any OL committs..Is that because we haven't recruited any or what??

With UT being in the situation that it is in it is important for the running game to help the line and the line to help the running game. It isn't like 1990 when Chuck Webb went down and Tony Thompson was plugged in and gained 1000 yards. Hell, I could've gained 600-700 yards with that line.

There were some yards left on the field last season. My bet is that won't be the case this year. Jay Graham was a stud at UT.

Bottom line, UT will be a much better running team next season.

They should be much better this year, but I am in a wait and see mode. Tiny should be inserted in the mix, Crowder a true center and Posey will both be in the rotation. The left handed Stone experiment didn't work out so he can get back to his more natural position. If Bullard is the center, he will have the off season to improve his snapping skills. Another year in strength training should help.

I don't believe there should be any excuses as to why this group can't run block. Graham will definitely help with the RBs and FBs. Hopefully Hinshaw can get some better blocking out of the WRs, also.

We'll start seeing more OL recruits over the next couple years, probably have 1 or 2 in this class. The focus on recruiting the last couple years has been to restock the cupboard with talented skill position players. We'll be fine on the OL.

Unless they spend as much time trying to push rather than to stand and pass block the run game is questionable for this season. Dang, doesnt matter to me as long as they win. Maybe Chaney will have a vision from the stars on how to include running in his scheme. Everybody says it's needed to reach the high BCS level.

Most elite teams don't start freshman or sophomore players on the line, unless they are exceptional talents. They redshirt them or have them buried in the depth chart until they are older, stronger, wiser. Line depth has been the one of the key issues on this coaching carousel.
