Offensive Line Situation, is Kiffin planning for the future?

There are enough lineman out there, it's just a matter of the quality. Doesn't look like UT will get much of the top tier, but there will be warm bodies in burnt orange uniforms.

Great news for Texas fans, but this is a Tennessee forum.

We're not. I think LSU is because their recruiting class finished second to yours. In fact, I'm almost sure that's why. They don't seem to think before they speak too much...
And sometimes they are having corn dog withdrawals.

:post-4-1090547912: I laughed purty hard when I read this post. Alabama, LSU, and Georgia are the only SEC teams that have any room at all to brag about out-recruiting Kiffin. It's untelling what CLK could have gotten if he would have been in Knoxville for 2 or 3 years instead of just 2 months...

I laughed at his name. Even if Tennessee gets pounded, that name will be rendered irrelevant in a matter of months.

I want to say thanks to VKAman, Lord Vader, and the others that actually answered some questions instead of just throwing out smart remarks.

Vader pretty much summed it up for me, apparently UT has offered more lineman for 2010 than I knew about cause I was basing it of Scout.com. Good enough answer for me.

I'm guessing you got multiple smart remarks because you act like you're enlightening us or telling us something we don't know or have been completely in the dark about (atleast that's the way I took it).

If you think CLK and CEO aren't aware of the situation aren't recruiting their butts off for a QB/OL/DTs/LBs then you're mentally insane. If there is one thing CLK will do at Tennessee, even if he doesn't win much - is put together a group of talented young men for the next guy. We won't be short on talent.

Yeah i agree, not like I don't think ya'll will have any, it's just kinda scary when you think that your second string in 2010 will be almost completey composed of true freshman unless you get some Jucos.

Yeah those freshman - no way they can be any good.

I expect ya'll to have a stout defense, but I can't see the offense doing much til 2011 considering line depth and QB situation. And as good as the defense is, I imagine they'll end up getting worn out. You can only sustain so long before you just crack, that's what happened with Auburn's D last year.

Ours (defense) did pretty good the whole year - and should be improved - when we had our worst offense.. basically ever - and the offense won't be as inept this year.

I am a bit new to the recruiting phase (just started paying attention this year), but based on what I saw in this past class, I assume that offering or even getting commits this early doesn't necessarily mean a whole lot. Based on the 4 players we got from other schools, could that be possible later in the year for next class? I feel if we can get a few in camp, and get a top QB commit, then O-line may start coming, even if they are committed to another school.

It's not that they won't be good prospects, but even good oline prospects usually aren't very good til they've a had at least a year in the weight room and time to learn good technique. I mean Andre Smith played as a freshman cause we didn't really have anyone else, but he didn't do very good that year, and he was a great lineman. Fluker is expected to be one of the best lineman to come out in a long time, and he's expected to be second string by those of us that aren't delusional and he may even redshirt. We've had alot 4 and 5 star lineman commits the past two years, and they are still behind guys that were two and three star committs that have been here awhile.

Man, I'm not knocking your D, cause they are very good. But they'll just get worn out by the third quarter if you're offense doesn't produce a lot better than last year. Remember the Bama game, it was close the first half, then we just ran away with it in the second. It's cause your D was flat out exhausted cause they'd been on the field the whole game.

So... you know firsthand that Frosh can play then.

I was fixing to reply a rebuttal to NATidefan but you beat me to it. :) Bama started 16 freshmen last year so saying that a freshman player isn't up to speed as a returning player is pretty much null.

Yeh... you're basically our blueprint on that count.

How many did Saban run off in the first year?

We played 16 freshman, not started. And I'm talking about Offensive Lineman, not WRs, RBs, LBs, DBs, and people on Special Teams. Lineman, even good ones, usually need at least a year in the weight room to be worth a crap.

BTW, none of our freshmen lineman were second string, and I think only one or possibly two played at all and that was Tyler Love who was a five star and maybe someone else.

UT's second string in 2010 will be made up of two true sophomores and three true freshmen if they don't get some JUCOs.

What part of that statement made you think I said Frosh Lineman can play well? Can they play? Sure anyone can play, doesn't mean they're worth a crap.

But, hey, tired of arguing, obviously ya'll know so much more than I do.

Clearly. We will be fine depth-wise this year barring serious injury. Next year, we will have some JuCo guys that will help with depth, possibly some freshmen that can contribute. It's not a recipe for winning the SEC, but UGA did it a couple of years back and had a decent year.

Auburn also went that route in 07 and was pretty successful.

That is a good question to which I dont have an answer, but I can remember players who didn't want to adjust to the new system. This was reflected on the field and at times when the performance was needed.

Do you know if ya'll offered any JuCos yet?

NATidefan brings up a lot of legit points, however last year we were very concerned about our DLine. We thought we were goi g to be very thin and that the Oline was going to be our greatest strength. We had aost all the starters on the O line from that was number 1 in pass protection the year before. Our Dline was pretty darn good and our Oline (along with the entire offense) was just terrible. Goes to show that you jet never know.

Have you? Most of the JuCos are either still being evaluated or yet to be evaluated. I think James Carmon holds an offer.

Don't get irritable man, it was just a question. But yeah we've offered 4 for 2010, none for the Oline though, but we won't need any there in 2010. We offered Carmon as well for the DL to replace Cody.

Wasn't meaning to get irritable, brother. Just returning the question.
