It is truely amazing how much they get slammed around here, but McClendon and Vlad get praise. They played above their level the entire year. They did all they could do.

They did do all they could do, but they still got ran over many times.

I thought our O-line was going to struggle last year too. didn't we start 2 walk-ons and moved a freshman TE to OL? it ended up okay.

You talk like we were 9-3 last year.

Not to be a nega vol but a 7-5 record and getting absolutely whipped in a bowl game is not my idea of "ok."

eh, it's only possible to put on about two pounds of muscle a month. Good thing OL don't need to be built like bodybuilders.

You can put on 4 pounds of pure muscle a month, and you are right they aren't going to be eating like bodybuilders. They have plenty of time to get where they need to be weight wise, they just have to be dedicated. Which is hard in college as far as eating goes.

Speaking of our OL, does anyone know how Kevin Revis has been progressing? I didn't really expect him to start this year but I was at least hoping to hear how he's doing. I've heard absolutely nothing on how he did in spring.

we looked like a 4-8 team until the 4th quarter of Auburn game. I believe we had a better team than UCLA or Auburn and should've won that game. when the offense finally clicked during the UGA week and all the way up to Memphis game I believe, we did look like a 9-10 win team. Crompton was the only QB to complete 50% or more pass against Alabama last season.
half of the teams in the SEC ended up with 7-5 anyways. we beat every single teams in the SEC East except Florida. we didn't do great but we ended up ok with what we've had.

Yes...second paragraph in your own post, 1 pound a week is very possible. I have read that article before. They will be putting on more then just muscle weight as well though, being lineman. It just depends on how close to their genetic limit they are, and how dedicated they are to eating correctly for weight gain.

For most weight-gainers, .5 pounds per week would be an even more realistic goal as they reach their genetic limit. Remember that gaining muscle is a long-term project and not something that can be simply turned on. If you're dedicated and diligent in your efforts, you'll not be disappointed!

These guys have all been lifting for years, so gains aren't as easy. Without the heavy use of steroids, 2 pounds a month is much more reasonable.

lulz if you think 50 pounds of lean muscle in a year is possible without heavy use of steroids and the most strict diet imaginable.

Also to add to it stop taking those said roids and see what happens. That weight will start coming off quick even if measure are taken to bring your natural testosterone back to normal. Don't ask me how I know this. lol

You have to realize that for lineman we are not talking about putting on just lean muscle. They are going for mass, body builders put on nothing but lean muscle and that is why it more difficult for them to do so. Lineman work out like power lifters, and they can put it on much faster then bodybuilders not only with taking in more calories but where they get their calories from. They should be able to put on 15-20 pounds total before august if that is their goal. Oh and heavy use of steroids is used more often then not in college football athletics, extremely common.

Alright? I never said it was not possible to put on 15-20 pounds. The whole "these guys need to put on 30 pounds of all muscle by fall" statements is the one I'm arguing against.

Plus, folks have already alluded to a 260-somethin weight quoted for some of these linemen might be old info and the guys might be starting from a weight well above that this spring before they add their 15 to 20 lbs more by end of summer. We'll see.

Revis will not play any significant amount of time here unless there are injuries. He's a perennial backup.

I'm more interested in how Daniel Hood is progressing, personally. I know he got some snaps at Center this year. I think that's the position he ends up playing and I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't already grooming him for it.

I do not know what type of blocking scheme these guys will be playing this year,,,I credit a lot of success with an undersized line last year to the Zone type attack they played which is a simple more straightforward scheme,
more angular. I do not see us overpowering our opponents
with the ole 'steamroll' or 'Road Grader' approach this coming season. I can only hope for those days to come.

The point is the same, UT has a bigger (taller) offensive line then Florida. I like this line, they have a ton of potential with this size.

The question is whether or not they can fill some of that potential this season. This crew will be good over the next few years, once they get some game-time experience and hone their skills.

One positive, though.
Oregon's D-line is pretty small. Three of their DT's are around 250 lbs, and a back-up freshman is like 280. If CDD schemes it right, I think we can have a big day running against them come September.

I remember a few years ago when Florida brought a shorter thicker D-line to TN and handed us our heads. They were all around 6-2 and 260 - 280 and they flat whipped us up front and consequently won the ball game. They had a couple of guys on that line we never did block.

Just saying, if guy is strong and can get under you..... height can be overrated.
