I am not sure if anyone has mentioned the re-tooling of the offense. I started a thread after the SC game called Problems With The Offense. I went through the nuts and bolts and issues . Several very knowledgeable posters chimed in and added some great insight. I noted that many , many things had changed in the UK game for the better. They added additional blockers featuring a TE or H back. Sometimes they blocked or lead blocked and sometimes they went out in pass formations. The use of the H-back allowed us to play true power football. This was something that both myself and others had noted and it seemed to pay benefits especially in the run game. Dobbs delivered passes on time most of the time. He was getting the ball out in 2.5 seconds as opposed to holding indefinitely. Play action was used and there was success with it, It seemed like the passing tree was simplified . With the additional blockers, the Oline still ran a zone but it was an attacking zone rather than a passive zone.
I am not sure why it took them so long to institute these changes. Three receivers are just as good as four...when you cant regularly hit one receiver. I have to wonder if Hurd leaving was not the driving force of the changes. In any case it was great to see.
