Before people say I’m spreading unsubstantiated rumors, I want to make clear that these are OC/coaches I’d like. Not people I believe have been contacted, etc. Some I suspect could be possible, but others are a pipe dream. There are more coaches that fit that description, but I’m only listing ones I would be happy with. I may add more names to this list later, but for now, here are the names bouncing around in my head. If you are looking for facts about the hire or legitimate possibilities, look elsewhere. This is just message board conversation among fans wanting our beloved Vols to return to prominence. With my disclaimer in place, here it goes.

Connected to UT staff/program:
Freddie Kitchens
-Lots of upside based on a small sample size as Browns’ OC. Obvious connection to CJP. Has shown creativity in play calling/design.

Steve Sarkisian
-Yeah, Sark has stunk it up in Atlanta for two seasons. But I think he is just not a fit for the NFL. Dude is a great college coach. His teams at Washington were very well coached and his offenses were efficient and balanced.

People no one is mentioning, but would be good/great hire (IMO):

Eric Bienemy Chiefs’ OC
-Colorado should have thrown the house at this guy to return as their HC. That offense is successful at the highest level with several young players in key positions. EB has been on a number of NFL staffs and brings hefty experience. I mention EB because no one seems to be talking about him as a candidate for any of the many coaching changes at either level.

Matt Canada
-Since he is not on staff anywhere that I’m aware of, he’d probably already have been named if he was our guy. Some on Volnation have mentioned him in other threads. I responded in favor of the hire, but with concerns. There are reasons to like him as our OC and there are reasons not to like him on our staff. We cannot deny his schematic acumen.

People mentioned that would be good/great hire:

Kendall Briles
-Would make a lot of sense just because his track record and his readiness for a big time gig. If not us, someone will hire home tonight or tomorrow.

Granted it is McVay’s offense, but Bienemy is part of that success. EB has been on a number of NFL staffs and brings hefty experience. Plus surely some of McVay’s genius has rubbed off on EB. Look at how they have utilized Gurley for example. That would compliment Pruitt’s philosophy or anyone’s for that matter. Mainly, I mention EB because no one seems to be talking about him as a candidate for any of the many coaching changes at either level.

thanks for the effort.

My wish is more for ability than a name. Frankly, as long as he can move the chains and score points, I don't give a damn what his name is.

However, no matter how good a "call" is. The results must prove it a "good call" on the field. Not many calls lately have been proved "good".

I agree with you,,name means nothing to me if he can't coach or teach them to move the chains or score more than the defense gives up.

Does nobody remember what happened to him at USC? He stuck it up and got fired for being drunk on the job. No Stark!

Sark would be another Kiffin. When a job on the west coast came open he would be trying to leave. I would say Briles then Kitchens. Briles offense in college has been good. Kitchens offense at Cleveland has been good since they fired Hue Jackson. (I hope Pruitt takes note of this.)

Kitchens has grown on me over time and the more I have seen on him. Seems to be a guy who can get creative when needed and we need that for sure!

Eric Bienemy is the Chiefs OC. Much like the two OCs who came before him (Doug Pederson and Matt Nagy), Eric will be in line for a HC job in the NFL soon.
Thx for the correction. I knew something felt off about it when I was posting originally. I knew EB was running some powerful NFL offense with young players. I’ve edited the OP to reflect your correction. I agree with you that EB will get looks as NFL HC. UT OC would be an odd career choice, but it is a wish list. I still think Colorado should have given him an offer he could not refuse. Thx again.

Coach, there is only one EB with the Chiefs and it isn’t Bienemy.

Yeah Stark hasn’t done anything good anywhere. He’s a below Average coach. ATL dropped 10 pts per game under him and he didn’t really coach a game for bama besides the National Championship game. Before that he was 7 win Steve. No to Sark!

I have thought about people we want as OC. No one is listening to us here at VN.

Can we talk about people we don't want?
