Before people say I’m spreading unsubstantiated rumors, I want to make clear that these are OC/coaches I’d like. Not people I believe have been contacted, etc. Some I suspect could be possible, but others are a pipe dream. There are more coaches that fit that description, but I’m only listing ones I would be happy with. I may add more names to this list later, but for now, here are the names bouncing around in my head. If you are looking for facts about the hire or legitimate possibilities, look elsewhere. This is just message board conversation among fans wanting our beloved Vols to return to prominence. With my disclaimer in place, here it goes.
Connected to UT staff/program:
Freddie Kitchens
-Lots of upside based on a small sample size as Browns’ OC. Obvious connection to CJP. Has shown creativity in play calling/design.
Steve Sarkisian
-Yeah, Sark has stunk it up in Atlanta for two seasons. But I think he is just not a fit for the NFL. Dude is a great college coach. His teams at Washington were very well coached and his offenses were efficient and balanced.
People no one is mentioning, but would be good/great hire (IMO):
Eric Bienemy Chiefs’ OC
-Colorado should have thrown the house at this guy to return as their HC. That offense is successful at the highest level with several young players in key positions. EB has been on a number of NFL staffs and brings hefty experience. I mention EB because no one seems to be talking about him as a candidate for any of the many coaching changes at either level.
Matt Canada
-Since he is not on staff anywhere that I’m aware of, he’d probably already have been named if he was our guy. Some on Volnation have mentioned him in other threads. I responded in favor of the hire, but with concerns. There are reasons to like him as our OC and there are reasons not to like him on our staff. We cannot deny his schematic acumen.
People mentioned that would be good/great hire:
Kendall Briles
-Would make a lot of sense just because his track record and his readiness for a big time gig. If not us, someone will hire home tonight or tomorrow.
