OC Coordinator ?

This o line is weak and not tough enough for the competition. They need a full year lifting and doing drills together to make a difference.

Is this the same OC that everyone said last week called a great game?
Yes. South Carolina's main goal on defense was to deny the deep ball. I think Helton called a good game to get the offense moving the ball without the benefit of big plays down the field. I don't think he's a bad OC at all and he'll look like a genius if they ever fix the o-line.

My only complaint is that they stick to the run so often on early downs when it clearly isn't working and it puts the offense in a lot of bad down and distances. I think they are trying to shorten the game by running the clock, but cutting the passing game loose is the best bet to get offense going. It worked against Auburn. It's a high-risk high-reward strategy, but I think it's the best bet against Kentucky and Missouri. The depth isn't really there to try and grind out wins or come from behind in those games.

1. Why does he constantly call plays to the left side? Pretty predictable.

2. Why is he on the side-line ?

3. How much longer will he be the OC ?
Likely you have your answer to this, but here's my take on #1.... Favors runs to the left side because Richmond anchors the right side.

OL get injured more than most other players -- need a stock pile of good ones to back up

It wont make us into a championship level offensive line but should go a long ways toward making us competitive.......that with the growth of some of our younger lineman help immensely.

Why not use Flis

This is just guessing but I am assuming they feel he can only run certain kind plays......There was a reason they moved him to DB before the season started.......Banks looked good running the ball earlier in the season besides the fumbling issues.... Our line just was not opening holes in the middle.

With the way they have played this year, anybody has a chance.

I could see all these guys contributing next year:
Morris (assuming we keep him)
Wright (assuming we get him)
Lampley
Carvin
J Johnson
R Johnson
Richmond
Niehaus
Tatum
Kennedy
Locklear
Will Kennedy be available for us next year?😯

Where are the questions for the HC head coach and DC coordinator? Oh, and the Special Team ST Coach? Thx in advance.

When I focus on the OL instead of the ball I can see why Friend, Helton and Pruitt want to pull their hair out ( none to pull, but you get my point). Play after play 2,3, or 4 guys fire off, move their feet and hold their blocks. But, the other guys don't fire off, reach and/or just whiff. The thing is it's different guys most of the time.
For a staff who all have a rep for an OCD type attention to detail this consistent inconsistency must be maddening.

JG has converted A LOT of 3rd and long plays. They might be trying to get him in manageable down and distances with the run game...but most of the time the run game provides nothing.

He has , but they have one type of play for that. To drag the receiver across the middle of the field directly in his grill. That only works when both safeties are high ( 3rd and long ) . That won't work when either safety is low , or worse an LB is dropping into cloud coverage . You usually see one or both of these situations on 1st and 2nd down . So what you do on third is not necessarily what you can do on other downs. This basically leaves the 50/50 passes and other routes JG has not shown the ability to hit , nor does he have the time to make.

The further problem with pass after pass is that the defense is not that good . They have no depth. The longer they play in a game , the worse they are . An inconsistent passing game is very bad for this defense .

The running game has paid some dividends this season , even if inconsistent and bad at times. Again , you ask JG to pass every down the results will be worse than the results we have gotten. He doesn't have the protection. He is indecisive. They knew this yesterday , 6-8 in the box daring him to pass . He made some plays , but not as many as he should have

JG is not there yet. I believe he will be , but you can't learn to play QB at a high level with no protection . Him passing a lot will end in INTs , sacks, fumbles, a longer game , and he will likely not finish the season due to injury

They are trying to get JG in third and manageable . When they do , he does well . I think passing down field leads to 2nd and 10 , if we are very very lucky
Actually, the constant first down inside runs keep leading to 2nd and 10.

That is not correct. See box score of USCe , or Auburn . This is a necessary approach to slow the pass rush. If the offensive line is bad on a neutral pass rush , they will be beyond horrible if the defense is all out pass rushing. They balance the play calling very well with inside rushes , outside rushes, outside passes. The problem that the protection gives in terms of routes is pretty simple. Multi direction routes, come back , deep level routes, stop and goes , inside outs, outside ins , all take to long to develop compared to our blocking. Defenses are sitting on the few routes we can throw. So JG can hit the third and long regularly. Its because the safeties are playing high on third and long and the middle of the box is open. It is not open on 1st or 2nd, as a safety is creeping in.

You have to have protection on 1st down to pass. You have to have protection to develop complex routes that will allow separation, we are sadly only able to run one cut routes due to protection. You have to run to the edges as well as up the middle to offset a pass rush. If you don't , then it is only a matter of time before you cant pass.

If we pass on 1st down , all we have is the 50/50 ball and the outside passes . The 50/50 is low percentage and high risk. The outside is high percentage but low reward. The interior run has sustained numerous drives and did especially well against USCe and Auburn . Going pass happy especially on 1st down will be guaranteed incompletions, INTs, and , JG leaving on a stretcher

OC's look alot better then they have OL's. If you can't run, and you're one dimensional, you're pretty easy to scheme for. Unfortunately, we're just the football team we thought we'd be, with some encouraging development in certain areas. We've got needs for upgrade all over the field, and really don't have big issues with any of the coaches at this point...too early to tell. This time next year, we'll start to have an idea if we're going to be moving in the right direction. Winning any of the next 3 games going to be a challenge.
