I think Coach Mahoney is kind of a weak-link personally. Even when he had Pro-caliber OL, they seriously underperformed.
Kind of funny if you think about it-- if its DeBord and Butch wanted to wait until after signing day, he must know the negativity it will bring, yet knowing that and the fact that ex-Vols and big donors it him up over the weekend about it, he's still gonna do it?! Why?
BJ is going to bring Mazzone in from UCLA with his son Taylor as the QB coach. UCLA's d-coord left yesterday to go to the NFL with the Falcons.
One of my biggest concerns with DeBord is that he doesn't really have experience coaching QB's but may be tasked with it like Bajakian did.
What I think will happen, if DeBord is indeed the new OC, is He will be co-OC (running game coordinator and TE coach), Azzani will be co-OC (passing game coordinator and WR coach).
Elder will be the new QB coach.
How so? Our run game improved behind that OL in their one year under Mahoney.
Debord will assist Sheridan in the QB coaching from what I've heard. No idea if that's correct, I hesitate to even post it since he has limited experience coaching the position.
I think it will be Azzani and Debord Co OC or Azzani will be passing game coordinator, something to that effect. I think Mahoney stays, Azzani learns/assists under Debord. I know there are a lot of questions with that but I think having minimal staff turnover was the goal and this was the way to keep Azzani and the rest of the offensive staff intact.
I know some will be critical if that is indeed the structure but we will not know anything about how successful the staff will be until next season. I do think this staff will be more successful than Jake was just by virtue of the talent, and depth we are getting.

Since you didn't preface this statement with an 'IMO', or 'my guess is', I'd say that's a pretty bold matter-of-fact statement. Hope you are right, but I don't see it. However, if you are right I will say you may have some serious stats.
This is actually a common mistake here. Our run game didn't really improve in 2013 so much as the offensive philosophy changed.
We ran it more and we ran it alot more in the games against cupcake opponents, which skewed the results. If you actually look at the yards per carry average against just SEC teams in 2013, it's the same as it was against them in 2012.
I disagree. If you look at the total carries against the 3 cupcakes (Ga St, Akron, and Troy) in '12 compared to the total carries against the 3 cupcakes in '13 (APU, WKU, and S. AL), there were only 16 more total carries (118 in '12 as opposed to 134 in '13), so I don't think 16 more total carries constitutes 'a lot more' carries. However, the yardage gained was a lot greater in '13, 833 yds as opposed to 604 yds in '12).
3rd thing is I just don't see CBJ going without a QB coach. Especially with 3 scholarship freshman and a walk on. I don't think he'd leave that in the hands of a grad assistant like some have suggested. Plus Dobbs needs coaching to by a coach not a assistant that was playin last year or the year before that.
THIS- QB coaching/ development experience is a must. Our passing game, esp. with Dobb's technique and accuracy issues at times, is going to be huge. You must be able to stretch the field to keep the running game going.
