Observations I don't like

It's obvious now. Butch can't coach. He has a nice offensive system that he just runs. But if it doesn't naturally score points he doesn't have the gusto to create points. No 4th and go for it unless the game is on the line in the 4th q. He doesn't do any trick plays to through the defense off. He just runs the same plays. That works if you have a Cam Newton or a Tebow who are better than all the other players but even Nick Saban does some unorthodox things when he needs to. I watch that game and if it Les Miles no way we lose that game. If it was Oregons coach no way we don't get points after that int in OU territory.

Lmfao at posts like this.....👆🐝💩

Well let's see. Their offense adjusted and moved the ball on us. Their defense adjusted and shut us down. Oh, never mind.

The complaint was we didn't adjust at halftime. They weren't moving the ball on is in the first half. Why come in and make a bunch of adjustments? Oh, never mind

Here's the part I don't get regarding the offensive strategy. It was obvious our OL couldn't block OU's defensive line. There was tremendous pressure on Dobbs every play. Our WR's weren't getting open. OU's linebackers were even rushing the passer. So add all of this up together and most coaches would resort to quick slants over the middle to counter the huge pass rush and place WR's on LB's.

Finally, in the first OT, we actually do this and it worked. But we wait until OT to do it and we only do it once.

???????

1. Can you explain the difference between #4 and #8?

2. Can you explain which one of these observations haven't been made in another thread?

3. Are you actually Wes Rucker?

Part of the lack of offense was on Dobbs and his ability to check off to another play. On more than one occassion, OU was showing a corner blitz from the right side. The called offensive play was a run right into the corner blitz and Dobbs didn't check off of that running play. You can't run right into a blitz.

Dobbs has lost his confidence throwing downfield. Therefore, he is very hesitant to throw downfield. If he has a wide open WR down the field, and a wide open RB in the flat, he will always choose to throw to the flat.

I have to believe there is something wrong with North. He is never open. Malone is 50/50 at catching the ball. Pig is never open as well. To me, Wolfe is our best receiver.

This isn't the end of the world. OU's defense was very good. We still have a young team even though our expectations are high. I do feel though we went into "conservative mode" after getting ahead early. This was the knock on CBJ before he got here. However, this is why got Fulmer fired.

Some on this board are critical that the coaching staff made no adjustments. Many others are critical that they went away from what was working. In the second half:
OU started exploiting the weak side of our offensive line;
We lose Maggitt and later TK with Cam missing some snaps due to injuries;
Dobbs was pressured and inaccurate;
There were drops in key situations;
Jumper's 3d down penalties kept a tired defense on the field;
Those are personnel issues that don't necessarily result from X's and O's.
Last year we were simply manhandled in Norman. This was an evenly matched game and ended as handicapped. It is time to learn from the mistakes and move on to WNC and Florida. These young men have been getting and will contnue to get better. We are competing on a much higher level than last year. GBO

Good post. I am very frustrated and agree with many of OPs points, but you raise good points also.

Good post, OP. I don't think people understand the importance of #2. That would have been an explosive moment, made an eventual 21-0 game, given confidence to one unit while deflated the other. Just a huge decision to not trust your guys to get in the end zone, gives OK defense confidence. The way OK was holding, even if UT didn't convert 4th down, I think a holding call in end zone was very probable. That moment was the one I knew would come back to bite them. I just had a feeling the entire game it would.

Without those three points, OU would have won the game without OT.

Look, I didn't like much of what I saw from the coaching staff, but gosh almighty at some point players have got to make plays. Alex Ellis absolutely just dropped a sure TD pass, and Medley's FG attempt was just garbage. So, while the coaching wasn't excellent, they put us in position to win it and the execution just wasn't there. Lot's of blame to go around.

You can't see ithe whole D on the replay because I went back and looked. but apparently the quick pass to pig on the sidelines that hits the ground is a TD also if he can beat one guy.

Coaching was poor in the 2nd half but we still had several shots to win and didn't.

Wonder if CBJ uses the West Carolina game to work on the passing game a bit? Or does he simply consider the fact our OL isn't good at pass blocking and hones the running game?

I have never seen a situation more apt for a "trick Play" than the fourth quarter of the OU game.

I think Medley has a bit of the Palardy syndrome in Palardy's early days . . . . anxiety. I have seen Medley kick in practice and he is a beast. Gametime is a different situation though.

UT left 3 points on the field with the Medley miss in the 3rd quarter and I thought Hurd should have gotten a try on 4th down during that 1st drive. You don't beat teams like Oklahoma by settling for field goals from six inches away.

De Bord is going to have to open up the play book to be competitive for the rest of this season.

Yep, just said the same thing in another thread. IM(useless)O, we ought to

Screw trick plays! There is a place for them but what CBJ seems unable to grasp is that his beloved up-tempo game is fine IF ... IF ... the offense is moving the ball. When it isn't, a little time off the clock is a good thing. His inept OC play calling and inability to adapt the tempo gassed the defense and led to defeat.

7. When you know the ball is not coming to you or can't get to you do you give your all? WR has become the diva position in football. I give North credit for even suiting up.

North's stats this year...

9 yards.

Why would you want to play in this system as a talented wide out?
