Even though I have said this before...this will be the last time I take an emotional approach to my NCAA picks. With that out of the way I would like to say this has been a wonderful ride.

Now I am calling on experts from all corners of the Volnation to let us know what this team will do to get over the tourney hump.

It seems as though we need a to have a little more organization of our chaos. I know that guard play would help tremendously.

Any guesses of a blueprint moving forward?

Obit's generally have something nice to say besides reporting the actual death. I will try and add that:

Tennessee's season, while tragically cut short by an attack of an ornithological anomaly in the form of a toothy cardinal, can be remembered for it's many accomplishments.

This Tennessee squad achieved the highest ranking in school history not once, but twice this season. For the first time in 41 years, Tennessee won outright the SEC regular season championship. Tennessee likely played the most difficult schedule (as measured by SOS and RPI) in a season by any Tennessee squad. For the first time in school history, Tennessee reached the sweet sixteen in back to back years. This team also obliterated the previous wins total for a season in school history.

While Tennessee's existence in the post season was all too brief in this fallen, imperfect world, do not dwell on the inequities and disappointments that Tennessee's end has most assuredly stirred in us. Reflect on how Tennessee lived its season. Know that somewhere in the next iteration of NCAA basketball, new and returning players will step forward. And they will have that much more to stand on and start from the work laid out this season.

And give Louisville heaps of credit. They are a great team that played a good game. They never blinked.

A point guard would help. Also get some long athletic guys who can guard, it works for ricky p.

Any guesses of a blueprint moving forward?
I read this over coffee this morning..
...The Vols will certainly be different without the deep shooting of Lofton and JaJuan Smith and the steadying personality of fellow senior guard Jordan Howell.

But they just might also be better. If J.P. Prince ever settles in at point guard the Vols could conceivably field a team with no starter shorter than 6-6. Imagine Pearl’s press with all that wingspan to pass around, all that height to pass over.

As good as Tennessee has been in Pearl’s first three seasons, they could become even better next season, capable of suffocating anyone smaller and frustrating the rare team that might be taller.

Maybe none of that will immediately erase frustrating end to this season. But it should make the off-season move along more quickly.

1) Our weaknesses we completely exposed in this tourney.
2)Despite all prevailing mentality I dont believe us to be a very deep team.
3) Cant wait for West to arrive on campus.
4) This team has a some basketball IQ issues.
5) Pearl did an amazing job with a team that has some severe deficiencies.
5) Lofton completely vanished as did his draft status.

1. Agree. From game 1.

2. I got the same feeling. But part of that was due to the declining performance of some players. Plus, tourney teams tend to be a bit deeper than your typical mediocre struggler. So if we go from 11 deep to really 8 or 9 deep... And the typical tourney team is 8, 9 deep... That isn't really a strength anymore.

3. JP Prince may be a good pg, with practice time... But my gut tells me certain decision-making snafoos will always be there. Perhaps he should work on his jump shot and move back to SG.

4. I totally agree. We saw evidence of that earlier in the year too, with bonehead plays, jacking up 3's when up by single digits with only a couple minutes to go... And our shot selection was laughable last night.

5.Yup. Yup. Lofton will always be remembered as a great college shooter, the best in Tennessee and maybe SEC history... But that is probably all, athletically.

As much as I hate to say it, we just kept getting progressively worse since the end of the regular season.

Maybe, but also the competition got better. And good competition gets better in the post season. We didn't.

Don't get me wrong here but it seemed as though Jerry Green coached last nights game......just rolled the ball out there and let em play! I saw some problems early on that indicated that this was going to be a long night. Early on we were throwing the ball at the rim, hoping that it would go in and then we were passing up open shots for fear of missing. This was one of those games were Bradshaw's leadership on the floor was missed. Hat don't flame me for that last comment..... I am not talking about ability just a calming influence when things were getting out of hand. Plus he could of taken minutes away from Prince!!!

This team peaked way too early. With that being said this team even at its peak would have only kept pace with Louisville and probably lost a close game. Some of you may go back and pull my posts predicting a win but I think most of us knew this was a very likely possibility, but just could not bring ourselves to pick against our Vols. Take it easy on us Hat, how can you blame us for believing in our team?

Actually, I don't know that this team ever peaked.

CD hit the nail on the head. I discussed this with the GrandPoobah of the Volnation over nachos and beer in Lex.

Even early on in the season, when teams were making runs at the Vols, it seemed that we didn't have "that" player to calm the offense down and make the right pass or take the right shot to end longer scoring droughts.

Today I will celebrate simply being on the national stage, and have confidence that the program will continue to build on this year's accomplishments.

I don't want to burst the bubble, but this team with JP as primary PG will never make a tourney run. JP is a slashing swingman who could defend and rebound extremely well with some weight room and focus help.

I tend to agree.

Agreed. I have not had time to keep up with recruits. Do we have a true pg interested in us that we have a serious shot at?

We signed a kid named Daniel West who is a true PG. He was probably the last of the decent PGs available at the time of our signing him.

Thank you. Is he good enough to run it for us next year or will he need a year before he is ready?

From what I understand, we actually recruited him before he received much interest from the bigger schools. We signed him just as the North Carolinas/Dukes began to show interest.

1. All of you who have claimed Chris Lofton can play in the NBA, please watch tonight's tape again.
2. To all of our genius fans who thought we had the advantage in depth, check Earl Clark's numbers.
3. To everyone who questioned me placing Louisville ahead of Tennessee in the Trap's preseason poll, I'm not laughing with you, I'm laughing at you.
4. Tyler Smith should go to the draft forthwith. Building a life for your child is far more important than entertaining a bunch of ingrates.
5. Ramar, don't listen to our alleged fan base. You'll be fine.
6. JP, please see if Lute will take you back.
7. Ryan Childress, Wright State could use you.
8. Bruce, use that scholarship to get Ramar some JUCO help.
9. Brian Williams and Wayne Chism, keep doing what you're doing. You're both going to make a lot of money playing this game.
10. Cam Tatum, your time is now.
One is dead on. I love Chris but get NBA caliber type guys in his face and a former NBA coach that knows what to do, you get my point. Also, good call on UT losing by at least 9, hated to see it but it was dead on.

did anyone see what the stats on the boards were? I'd say that is where the game was lost. The Cards came up with every loose ball and dominated the boards. It couldn't of been close.
