Number 4 QB

We can if Butch gets his head out of his a**. Also I didn't think he had the right assistants, not to mention he was coaching way too uptight. Butch needs to be like Dabo and let his coaches do their jobs instead of trying to be Mr. Control Freak.

You're asking for a lot on that one. He's been a head coach for 10 years; he probably won't change.

ACC 10 - SEC 4.

Clemson would slaughter us badly. Even if we were healthy. If you think we could beat Clemson, then we seriously underperformed.

Games are not predictable - players that were depended upon get hurt (Scarbrough). Offensive coordinators bail before the championship game.

Every game is a match up - you can't predict how two teams will match up until they play.

You are only following one bouncing ball ... follow another one ...

Tennessee beat Va Tech beat Pitt beat Clemson.

Some of you just need to give back your Vol Card and go root for another team. You are TRASHING the team you supposedly follow.

If you seriously don't like Tennessee that bad - leave.

Is it trashing Tennessee when you speak the truth? I said that Pitt "could" beat Tennessee, and said I would rather not play Clemson right now. Is that TRASHING?

....and the ACC was the top football conference this past year.

Their defenses are not anywhere close to those of the SEC's so what's your point? The ACC can't cling to Clemson's success just as the SEC can't cling to Alabama's as well.

The ACC does not equal Clemson just as the SEC does not equal Alabama. We killed VT and Louisville lost to Kentucky. I'm not feeling a huge distance between SEC and ACC.

Speaking of defenses, the ACC gave up an average of 24.3 ppg against SEC teams in 14 games. If I get time, I will see what the SEC scored against other SEC teams. And, if I get more time, I will see how many points the ACC scored against other ACC teams.

I would say they are actually better. Because of the coaching plight in the SEC, things like defense are going backwards. It's not 2007 anymore.

Somebody can't handle the truth on the state of the program and the conference.

Okay, here are the results of the 2016 season. In 14 games of SEC versus ACC, the SEC scored an average of 24.3 ppg against the ACC defenses.

In 113 games of SEC versus SEC, the SEC scored an average of 26.5 ppg against other SEC defenses.

SEC team scoring versus ACC defenses: 24.3 ppg
SEC team scoring versus SEC defenses: 26.5 ppg

Looking at it this way, the SEC defenses don't show superiority over ACC defenses.

A lot smaller sample of SEC vs ACC defenses I'd imagine. There's a marginal difference between the two at best. Thinking about it now, I'm probably giving too much credit to the top defenses of Alabama, Florida, LSU, and Ole Miss, and too much disregard to our defense, Kentucky, Missouri, etc. We have a very strong top of list, a couple decent teams in the middle, and the bottom is very very weak.

We're not talking about this year right? I'm not being snarky. I just wanted to check; Ole Miss fielded a pretty bad defense was this last year.

top to bottom the ACC right now is better than the SEC. in the ACC you have more competition at the top (FSU and Clemson), and more teams from the middle beating the teams at the top (Pitt/UNC).

the same argument we used to use as the top conf, is now the reality in the ACC. they aren't just FSU and everyone else anymore.

whereas in the SEC, it's Alabama and everybody else right now. don't have to like it....but it's true.

and someone nailed it earlier, the coaching in the two leagues has swung...and the ACC has always gotten good players, always fared well in sending talent to the NFL. now the coaching is better.

the two leagues have switched places over the last 5 years or so.

Very true. Some folks are either blinded by loyalty or living in the past.

A person lives their life for so long and then one day they wake up and the world is on it's side and you wonder.... How did that happen?

It's a hard adjustment.

Go Vols!

I am also for U.T. always. It is my school, and the place where I met several friends that I still have, and a wife that I don't. However, I am a realist about the state of the program and the conference.

The SEC is the 2nd best conference, and U.T. is pretty much slightly above mid-pack. I am cautiously optimistic and patiently waiting for improvement. My first game in person was the 1957 Gator Bowl, a 3-0 victory over Bear Bryant and Texas A&M. My father took 8mm film which I recently had converted to DVD. I am and always will be a fan of my school.

Well, Iamalso4utalways, sometimes the truth is further from reality than you think.

You posted about being hung up on the past, even the recent past can trip people up.

I get hung up on the future and what 121 is capable of or has the potential to do.

Last year all we can do is expect 120 to build on that experience.

The difficulty of coming from behind, the importance of the whole team being on the same page,

121 has a clean slate, what will they do? The reality is nobody knows and that's the truth.

You should share that DVD, I bet you was just a little chug.

2017 will be another exciting ride for all Vol fans. I'm looking foward to some really great games.

Maybe we can play in Atlanta 3 times this year and beat bama 2 or 3 times aping the way.

Go Vols!

There is no bigger fan of UT than me. However, Va Tech beat Va Tech in our game last year. Seven turnovers after dominating early.
Being realistic is better than being a homer. By all accounts, the ACC was the best conference. Pitt played in the ACC. I realize that doesn't fit the homer narrative, but it's real.

The past is the best indicator of the future. Team 121 may have a clean slate, but Jones doesn't.

Exactly. In 2015, the SEC won 6 out of 10 games. It is all a matter of who plays who.

Interesting in the rankings which look at strength of schedule and other factors the SEC still comes out on top followed by the PAC 12. The ACC is third. The SOS of the conferences are SEC 4.11, PAC 12 4.80, ACC 3.13, Big Ten 3.60 and Big 12 1.86. Of the 5 major conferences the strength of schedule for the ACC conference is 4th.

Nathan Peterman is #4 on Mel Kiper's board. Is this definite proof that our coaching staff absolutely needed a QB coach? Has this been our hold up?[/QUOTE

If I'm a coach on the offensive staff when Peterman was on the roster, now seeing his improvement and draft movement, how could I not be embarrassed and hope no one else notices and brings it up to me?

Agreed, this is his last shot at the East. If he doesn't Nab it, he should be canned.

To go 10-2, but not win the east, he keeps his job.

As bad as the east has been, what's the worst we could go and still win the east? 8-4.

Is rather go 8-4 winning the east rather than 10-2 but not winning the east.

I can't wait to go "Swamp Stomping".

It's time for a "gator stomp".

CBJ has a lot riding on 121.

Go Vols!
