Nuke vs Percy Harvin

Or 40 time for that matter. Astonishing how many 4.2/4.3 guys end up running 4.4's (or worse) at the combine. So much so many of the top names don't even run at the combine anymore. Keeping with the Harvin example:

WikiAnswers - What is Percy harvin 40 time

Willie Gault ran a sub 4.3 40!!!!!!

Keep in mind Harvin's official combine time was 4.41. The problem is that it's knuckleheads like the guy posting in that link making it look like 4.41 is slow. Truth is, exactly 6 people, regardless of position, equaled or bettered Harvin's time and nobody went under 4.3.

How is it that UF reported that Harvin ran a sub 4.4 40. I think they even report that he ran a sub 4.3. Are they BSing everyone? They supposedly have 2-3 other guys that run below a 4.3

I love Gault but I seriously doubt it. Ask yourself this question;

If Harvin runs a 10.4-10.5 100 meters and clocks a 4.41 at the combine and Gault runs a 10.8 100 meters (albeit at an astonishing 48 yrs old) what do you think Gault's time would be at the combine?

In his prime when he was a 10.1 100 meter guy I'd have entertained the idea of a sub 4.3 but while running a 10.8? Really?

Having your own coaches timing you, and no doubt citing whichever was the fastest, is like looking at girls through beer goggles. Find somebody sober (like the combine) and get their opinion.

I can't speak for all of them but Jeff Demps ran a freaking 10.01 100 meters in the US Olympic trials. That is literally World Class type speed.

NuKeese is on the scrawny side. Even in high school Percy was jacked. I think they are pretty different players. Nuke has got a LONG way to go.

not really seeing the comparison.but you never know, he may blow up.

Basically an overstylized version of what Justin said.

I hope Nuke does blow up. If he can be that complement to, I'm guessing, Jones and Moore with some Warren thrown in it could be nice. (please note I'm goin waaaay out of my way to assume they're actually thrown catchable passes by a QB)

I think Crompton is closer to Tebow than Nuke is to Harvin.

Harvin benched 225 lbs. 22 times at the Pro Day in Gainesville in March. Can Nuke lift that even once?

Harvin ran 4.41 at the combine a few months after a sprained ankle and a stress fracture. I'm sure that wasn't the fastest he ever ran and that he was a sub 4.4 guy at some point.

As far as the explosive breakaway threat...I admit I haven't see enough of Nuke. (but I've looked). Anyone have a look to Nuke's best?

Maybe we should compare Nuke to Andre Debose.

they dont compare much at all to me..other than speed wise

Harvin was about 6'0 - 6'1 and around 190lbs
Nuke is 5'7 170lbs

Still, usage might be similar. I think maybe more along the lines of Holliday at LSU albeit not nearly as fast.

In all fairness Harvin was listed as 6'1" by Rivals so one can see where the confusion would come from. Similarly how certain are we Nuke isn't actually closer to 5'7"?

Not saying that's the case...just saying.
I wasn't aware the guy was so small...

I think it's safe to say that Demps is probably the fastest guy in all of college football. He's certainly the fastest timed high school student ever.

The only time I ever ran that fast was years ago when all them high school ladies were chasing me. It's tough being so beautiful.

I think we're comparing him to the wrong Florida player. We should be comparing him to Brandon James imo. He's small, elusive, and quick. Not lightning fast, but quick on cuts and acceleration.

I think a lot of people are still confused as to the size of Harvin. He is bigger than most of you realize.

Harvin is huge....he is a very solid 190lbs.....his arms are bigger than nuke's legs

he is a freak..and sorry i said he is 6'0 - 6'1...he is 5'11 whoops

I promise you nuke is 5'7....i am 5'5 and saw him at the vol walk and he is a tad bit taller than me

Compare that to Gault, who can still crack 10 seconds in the 100-yard dash, and last year ran the 40 in a blistering 4.27. Age-grading track and field tables suggest that his recent 10.80 for the 100 meters at 48 is the equivalent of 9.76 by a man in his 20s – only a step behind Usain Bolt, and fast enough for a silver medal at the Bejing Olympics.

Obviously Gators fans think Nuke will be a good one cause we all wanted him and thought we had him. I don't think he will ever have the size Percy does to go along with that blazing speed. Nuke might, and reeeaallly read might, one day reach Percy's speed but I don't believe he will be able to run through tackles and take the punishment like Percy could. BUT it is way to early to even begin to talk about it imo as he hasn't even touched a ball in a college football game and more improtantly a game in the SEC. Save this thread for this time next year and people will be able to make a more informed prediction.

C'mon man, you can't possibly believe that. Gault's personal best when at his prime was a 10.1 and you're trying to use some kind of "age grading" table? Who came up with THAT idea? So a guy that never went under a 10.1 (in, you know, real life) you're now "projecting" to have been able to run a 9.76? Don't tell Willie, clearly he was a huge underacheiver in his youth.

I put as much faith in that 4.27 as I do in the age-conversion chart and for reasons I've already cited. To reiterate; Harvin is a proven 10.4 guy at 100 meters and ran a 4.41 at the combine. Even assuming he had a bad day it's a stretch to think he would have been anywhere near a 4.2. So Gault runs a 10.8 (still amazing at nearly 50yr) and you're going to buy he's sub 4.3? By what application of logic can you reach this conclusion?
