Now that the honeymoon is over...

Don't forget that there's still one former coach who thinks UT is a dream job. He was successful at UW and subpar at UCLA but hey, at least he wants the job.

I've steadily maintained 7-5 or 8-4, but that was with the guess that our talent was still not where it needed to be to win 10 games. We absolutely have the talent to win 10 this year though. At least as of right now.

I said 7-5 before the reason started. The Oline, replacing aj, I didn't think we had depth on d when injuries happened, and the ou game would be tough.

You're talking up muschamp's gators from the last 3 years? Really? And McElwain was possibly an even worse hire. And he just beat us in year one...

With all due respect, I think McElwain was an excellent hire. Did a great job as Saban's OC for four years, did an even better job taking Colorado State from 3-4 wins to a 10-win season in 3 years. This was our year to get Florida and McElwain IMO. And now that we didn't, that streak is gonna be alive and well for many years to come.

I heard CBJ was trying to get a resilient job selling cars and building his clientele "Brick by Brick"

We did beg. It was rumered that the sides could not agree on the buyout terms.

While we could have hired Howland from the start. Hart has screwed up every coaching search and hire with the exception of Barnes, which is a decent to good hire on the surface. We'll see how it plays out.

He also got worked over by Butch and Debord for the last raise and extension. He's a smug, incompetent prick.

how long is the CBJ leash? Are we looking for a new coach if we blow the next 3 games?
Firing him this year period would do more harm than good. Firing him next year after another lackluster performance might do more good than harm. The talent is there, but we need stability for now. A good coach could clean up if this is handled right.

This, below is a post from a reliable poster on TOS. It goes along with what some already know and several refuse to accept.

During the months of November and December, the media was fed Butch Jones' name and the Michigan job opening from Ann Arbor by none other than his long time arse hole buddy Mike DeBord, who hadn't been on the field in 7 years, but had the ear of a number of media outlets covering the Wolverine mess and hunt for Harbaugh. *DeBord was shuffling papers in the Michigan athletic department for the past couple of years.

Jones had a snow ball's chance in hell getting the Michigan job, but DeBord kept putting his name out there as potential, DeBord is running the day to day football operations after Hoke is canned, while Hart and Jones worked on a new deal, which in reality already had plenty of bonus provisions in place for bowl games, etc. and finishing 6-6, but Hart got the sack pulled over his head, everybody knows he doesn't want to hit the trail again to hire another coach, in any sport, and Tennessee fans don't want Angry Elf AD out there prospective for another hire, so Handsome Dave extends the contract through 2020 bumps Jones by about $700,000 for finishing .500 right before the bowl line up is announced.

Then over the holidays and after the bowl game with another plan in place, Jones pushes Bajakian out to make room for, guess who, the guy who engineered the angle from Ann Arbor to shake up Handsome Dave and put an additional $3.5 million in Jones pocket and add two years to an already generous and cash rich for a coach who's not won anything other than a B.S. bowl game over a hapless Iowa team. *DeBord got the boot in Chicago while working for Lovie Smith when they cleaned house. *DeBord had no trouble getting Lovie Smith on the line and opened the angle for Bajakian to take the demotion from an SEC offensive coordinator to carrying luggage for, keeping tabs on and the tunes for Jamies Winston.

DeBord comes on staff at $500,000 a seaon, signs a two year deal, plus perks, plus camp money and a car allowance is not a popular hire, couldn't be spun into any buzz or hype despite Handsome Dave's best efforts. Lots of more competent and active offensive coordinators available, but Butch inexplicably insisted on DeBord with no real explanation how somebody who had no SEC experience, hadn't called a play or schemed a game in 7 years was a perfect fit for Tennessee. *Big donors deferred, money was already budgeted.

When Choke Jones and Obama DeBord futz around blowing the Oklahoma game and the Florida game, embarrassing the program on national television and hourly on the national sports media, showing their rank ineptitude and incompetence, and once how this fiasco came to be, all at the expense of the fans, the big money boosters, and what was generally perceived to be the right guy, in the right place, at the right time.

Big donors may go Cuonzo on Choke Jones, as there is some indication, in my opinion, that he has none of the program's best interests up front, it's all about putting money in Butch Jones' pocket, setting him and his family and his cronies up financially forever. *With a $10 million buy out in place not to coach at Tennessee, he may say or do a number of quirky things to create fan apathy, rankle the fan base, and get the big money to pull the trigger and get back to a coaching level that he can perform at and cash solid 6 figure checks from Tennessee on a monthly basis.

Going to be a long season, could have been a great season, but not now.

Say hi to the black helicopters for me.....SMH

If Butch will enter each game with the mentality of winning the game by a minimum of 30 pts.... We as a fan base will not see the prevent defense again or conservative offensive play calling again. He knows football well enough.....His desire needs to go from just winning the game to destroying his opponent's will to continue the game.

I am still at a loss why they get contracts to pay them even when they do terrible. We would get fired and no pay. I can understand them making the money they do. If they do not succeed they should not be paid. Just my thought.

I would venture a guess that you do not have an employment contract. If you did, you would be paid if fired b4 the contract expired. If we worked off of 1 year contracts - we would have a lot of trouble getting a coach. Same process in corporate world. CEO = run a company down -get fired - receive golden parachute.

I've seen this numerous times. Fans said we don't need, Fulmer, chavis, cutcliffe, delmonico, pearl, martin. Turned out the programs were worse after all these names left Tennessee.

Well, to be fair, the guys on VN know more about football, baseball, and basketball than all these guys.
