Not Calling a Timeout

I think the recruiting services misjudged JJJ.

He’s more of a big shooting guard than a PG.

His handles seem to be one of his main weaknesses, almost as if he’s hesitant whether or not to drive the ball into the lane.

The talent is still there imo but he’s not a PG at the college level. He got away with it in high school when he was bigger than everyone else.

I knew when the refs started allowing hand to hand combat we were in trouble. We just don't have anyone with a strong enough handle and enough physicality inside to handle it. Fulkerson for sure isn't cut out for this.

Pearl's coaching didn't win today; we beat ourselves.
Sad, but that's been most of this season. I gave up when we beat SC the first time we played them. Saw the writing on the wall. Truth be told, i gave up when Turner left. He was the HEART OF THIS TEAM. Too much to overcome after that.

I have been involved in basketball for over 50 years but I am about to get fed up with it. No such thing as a finesse game anymore. Flops and as you say hand to hand combat has ruined the game. The man that hung the peach basket up all them years ago is probably flopping in his grave nearly as much as the so called players are!

He’s in the top 4 or 5 paid. If you think K, Izzo, Jay Wright, Self etc blow that game, you’re not paying attention.
I hope you’re joking. All of those guys have blown big leads before. Anyone who’s coached any significant length of time has.

This is a dumb argument IMO. I would have liked to see him use one when they cut it to single digits, but there were 2 TV timeouts during that run. They helping nothing and neither would a called timeout imo

Pearl never called a timeout during the run where UT built the 17 point lead. People are b!tching at Barnes for doing literally the same thing Pearl did in the same game.

I think there are a couple problems here and none of them have to do with Barnes. For one, Pearl has learned that officials weary of blowing the whistle and so he has coached his teams to mirror Pitino’s Louisville teams that just reached, hand-checked, and bodied and reached, hand-checked, and bodied and so on and so forth and he knows the officials eventually quit blowing the whistle. For another, we have no one on the team who will take it through someone’s face during a run like Auburn went on that was spurred by physical play. Officials find their whistles again once a player does something that starts a mini-scrape and we needed one or two plays that made the officials reevaluate their calls. Finally, this UT team is a NCAA tournament team quality-wise and yet we have blown about three games (including today) that are the difference between making the tournament and not.

I don't think not calling a time-out was the sole reason we lost. I think it was a poor coaching decision regardless though.

I think Fulkerson's performance was likely the reason for the loss today. He was frustrated by the athleticism and size of Auburn and was bullied in the paint.
He was bullied. Pushed from behind all game. We just can't get consistent play. Bowden explodes on O Faulk disappears.

I will say it was 100% BULL**** that Pearl was able to run out to half court and convince the officials to discuss something; he should have been T'd up automatically.

Pearl 6 years at the barn 61% winning vs Barnes 5 years at UT 63%.
Can you please post their tournament results for the last 5 years. I mean basketball is a tournament sport....

I don't even like Pearl, I think he's a slime ball and a liar. However he's a good coach and has taken Auburn to new heights.

Good post. JJJ is not a true point. He is a big 2 or even 3 . Vescovi plays with mindset of point but lacks quickness needed at top level play. I am hoping that both just need good ole strength program that works on explosive exercises.

But Pearl won.....Again

Everywhere BP has been he has pushed the envelope to the point of getting an edge even if it was illegal all the way to cheating. Chuck Person took the FBI blow for fraud, corruption and cash bribes circling blue chip players like cyotes at Auburn.
Pearl s a teflon guy all most like a blue blood sans the show cause.

The NCAA isn’t done with Auburn yet. And if they find so much as a hair out of place, given that Pearl would be a repeat offender, he’d get nailed. As in he could get the Donnie Tyndall death penalty of a decade-long show cause.

Wasn’t Teflon here when our own Administration threw him under the bus
