Not as bad as it looks

The light won't be different, until those 9 who transferred in play like All Americans, and change the mojo for the rest.

Then again, everybody will be running about doing Rocky Top Woo. Yuck.

Key players…Hank T, although one of the best LBs in the country couldn’t cover the middle of the field. JG…nothing needs to be said. Eric Gray, a big loss but wasn’t Kamara’esk where he changed the whole game just being on the field. Brent Cimaglia…a big foot but last year was literally hit or miss. Wanya, very very good but never warranted that 5 star tag. That team of key players went 3-7. Absolutely every player and coach on that field was replaceable from last year. Under Pruitt they literally couldn’t run through the T property. The first drive of every quarter aside from UGA fumble was awful. It almost can’t be worse than last year who averaged like 20 points a game. Terrible.

Sounds like an upgrade to me. Addition by subtraction.
No, we lost more than we gained. Not even close. We got rid of some dead weight, but we also lost some very key players on both sides of the ball that will start wherever they go. We got some people that couldn't break the two deep at other schools.

True— no doubt we lost some very good players snd those coming in, on balance, won’t make up for it. But don’t forget, In losing those players, we also lost the worst coaching staff ever at UT ( and that says a lot).

Gray may start but he is far from a complete running back. The running back room appears good, I believe we will be better than last year. HT will not start if he plays like he did last year. We are better off without the players who are no longer here. If not from a talent perspective than definitely from a team chemistry perspective.

I'd start with "who" left. How many starters, key players?

Guys who were Pruitt guys and part of a culture problem that led to a 3-7 season. Losing Too’Too hurt, but replacing him with Mitchell was big. Morris and Crouch never lived up to their hype. Gray was a fantastic RB who never saw a pass rusher he couldn’t whiff on and plays a position where Tennessee should be fine. Small, Evans, Wright, and Beckwith have the potential to be better than last year’s group.

If Tennessee lands Prunty, it’s improved itself on the back end of the defense over last year and, frankly, has gained more than it’s lost overall through the portal.

The area I think Tennessee has suffered via the portal is OLine. But I do think they’ll be better coached there. There is still a lot to work with. The right side starters are both NFL guys. Last year’s group really underachieved.

And yet life will go on.

Nothing wrong with looking at the facts and the facts always have more than one side.

Edit: forgot the e at the end of on.

Key Lawrence will be the biggest loss IMO. To say that losing some of these guys doesn’t matter is a little off IMO. It’s not like they went to some Mid-tier P5 school. 4 of our best players ended up at potential CFP and top 5 programs. Say what you want about HT’s coverage deficiencies, he was still our most accoladed player who ended up at our biggest rival. A lot of people feel OU has a legit National title chance this season and they got 3 very good players, including our best offensive player. Luckily we have a pretty good stable of backs to help replace him. We were better than a 3 loss team last season. We lacked QB play and a competent head coach. I don’t think we were that devoid of talent.

True, on shedding these players we purged some people who obviously didn't want to participate in a new process which is where we find ourselves.

And while I believe we aren't as talented as last year we may have some people that are bought in, engaged and that can close the talent gap.

It will be interesting to see where we are 3 or 4 games into the season. We'll certainly know more then.

Yeah, I ain't celebrating the trade out, but it seems we've upgraded overall on kids that want to be here and to repeat myself, there ain't nothing wrong with looking at both sides.

I agree it's going to be interesting and I imagine pretty exciting. Just hope there's some wins mixed in the interesting excitement.

And Id prefer these type of threads over the crap AL79 has been saturating the board with.

I've missed those, what's the synopsis of those posts.
