Not a dry eye in this house. Must read.

Just thought a little constructive criticism might help before she turns it in to her teacher. Not that hard to fix this - if she really cares to. My kids always had me parse their work before they turned it in for a grade. It's a habit with me.

I teach my kids when its appropriate to speak and when its best to keep their mouths shut.

Very solid. I liked how she compared it to a man looking over his home at first and then slowly revealed that she was talking about the VOLS!

Bright young lady you have there. Be proud, stay proud. Just wonder what special ed class that poster attended?

Way to hijack the thread Special Ed. Time and place and you missed both. Punch yourself square in the mouff for the board. :good!:

OP, your daughter should be proud of herself. Enjoyed the poem.

Everyone this short story/ poem was written by my 14 year old girl. A little back ground. She has always since she was a baby sat with me and watched every game. She is true Vols fan. I held her the entire NC game, she was only a few months old at the time. She has watched the VolNation go thru the tough times. She has been thru them as well. She still wakes up with me on game day and we tailgate ourselves even if we are 9 hours away. Any way she had to write a poem. She wrote this...

The night was dark and cool. A slight breeze blew off the water in to his house. He had been gone for a while. When he left he thought he had left the house in good hands. And for years it had been. He had been watching over them from afar.
After a time his house was left to fall into turmoil. A once great man had fallin onto hard times and was having trouble taking car of the old man's house. So a younger man was brought in, and after abusing the house and bring much dishonor and chaos into it, and leaving in haste. An honorable man was hired to take over and to restore the household.
Too be sure his house was restored to past glory the old general decided it was time to return and provide a guiding hand and to over watch this honorable man do his work. The Honorable man brought in young men of talent and pride to help with his task. They stood tall as they worked hard, proud to be call upon to stand and defend the house they call Neyland.

Good stuff!!

I really enjoyed it very much!

Thanks for sharing. :salute:

I'm going to stand by Special Ed on this. I think we have a tendency to over praise children. That work is good but needs some polish before being ready for school or posting on the internet.

Praise + instruction is needed. Not just blanket praise. Now nothing saying the OP didn't provide plenty of praise and instruction. I'm speaking in generalities.

Not appropriate. Appropriate behavior is something you need to learn. And then maybe you can teach that to your kids.

Reaching out to help others to be their best is always appropriate. Condoning mediocrity is not. That's one reason my children achieved excellence all the way through college.

Condoning mediocrity? My children achieved excellence?
Who the hell are you?
Let me tell you something. You don't know this daughter. You don't know this father. Who give a **** what you condone or the reason you perceive that your child achieves excellence. Excellence in what? School?
I have known many people who supposedly "excelled" to your expected level of excellence. Some can't carry on a conversations. Some have no common sense. Some are bankrupt. Some have had nasty divorces. Some are in jail. Some have committed suicide. Some are doing well. Some work for me.
I will challenge my children to be better people. You focus on challenging them to be perfect.
Let's catch up in 20 years and see where we are.

A person sits down and logs in to Volnation. He starts a post and types out a poem his daughter wrote for a project. He's proud of her creativity, and knowledge of the team, and thinks other fans will enjoy reading it. It didn't need your input. I'm trying to reach out and help you to understand why your comments weren't appropriate.

I think NuKeese Richardson could write a "poem" about the Vols and post it on volnation, and 3/4 of the people on here would want to give him a Pulitzer or something. No offense to the OP or anything, but people in this thread are taking it a little too seriously.

It's a very sweet sentiment expressed by a 14 year old girl. Apparently you don't follow TN or you wouldn't have used that player in your example.

GO VOLS!!!

That's precisely why I used that player, maybe your sarcasm meter is broke. The point is, yeah its sweet but a lot of you guys are having a bromance with the OP its just a little silly.

Do I need to have kids to find it a little silly that you are defending a little girl's poem like it's the Rime of the Ancient Mariner?
Posted via VolNation Mobile

That's where you're missing the point. They aren't defending the poem...they are defending the girl.

My point is that nothing worthwhile was ever achieved through mediocrity. With a little effort and attention to detail, we can all achieve excellence. That's a philosophy that served me well all the way through school and my career in military intelligence. Teaching our children is more important than fawning over everything they do. Like every other responder, I gave my opinion. Mission Accomplished!

No you don't. You can show your ignorance however you please.
Your responses show you to be a naive, smartass kid. I just wanted to know if I was correct. I now know.

You came up with that because a man put his daughter's essay about the vols on here and you decided to grade it?
Get over yourself man. You aren't as intelligent as you think you are.
