That poster features a named pair of Uconn castoffs, McLean and Poffenbarger. Is Brenda huckstering her skills at losing and claiming transfers?

There is not really any incentive in over scheduling these days. Kim has done this for years but lots of other coaches have followed suit in the last few seasons. Wins and win margin matter more for NET than playing top opponents. Until they adjust for that we’ll see more cupcake schedules.

Also, the SEC is PACKED with talent both players and coaches. No need to front load your schedule looking down the barrel of that gauntlet.

Makes sense. And it’s definitely on brand for Kim. It’s been working for her, so if it ain’t broke don’t fix it, I suppose.

She’s competitive as heck though, so it does surprise me just a tad each year.

Don’t get your panties into a waddle, esp if you don’t like SC WBB , just wanted to share some insight from a non important WBB podcast. But for those predicting the demise of SC WBB program, well, as Mark Twain once said…”The rumors of my death are greatly exaggerated”. Peace all, and before anyone here goes postal, this is the non lady vol thread, ok, so lighten up. My prediction? SC wins the SEC once again. Let’s see, but Texas or LSU don’t seem balanced enough to win it, gonna be fun watching and I could be wrong of course. LV’s are certainly in the mix, this will be their best roster in many years.

I am not trying to second guess them, or Mulkey, but what a BS non conference schedule once again. Pathetic tbh. They play one ranked team, Duke, and no other in the top 70-80’ish of WBB OOC. Mulkey trying to increase her lifetime winning percentage perhaps. She has been in the SEC for awhile now, still no SEC championship in regular season or tourney yet. The NC at LSU was a fluke, think most know that now. She was better at Baylor, no question.

I like that SC plays heavyweights every year OOC. The more the merrier, bring them on. This year’s OOC schedule for S.C. is weaker than it has been in years, perhaps the change in philosophy is spreading like a bad virus. Still, it includes USC, UCLA, Duke, Louisville and some other quality teams. CDS was pissed that her no.1 rated OOC schedule the past many years has not always been rewarded, perhaps she has changed strategy. LV’s OOC schedule is strong this year imo.

  • Highlighted games are those that S.C. could lose in SEC play. If I was a betting man, I would say S.C. might lose 3 or 4 games in 2025-2026 Pre SEC tourney, including OOC games. I would not be shocked if they run the table in that span either. Latson and Okot were huge gets. Fulwiley was a big loss, but tbh it means Tessa and Latson play more minutes at the 2 and both are better shooters. Kitts and Edwards return along with Tessa and Raven Johnson.
  • Freshmen Makeer and McDowell will contribute right away also. They are both real. Shooting the three will be an advantage this year along with the post presence of Okot. Kitts and Edwards will thrive in the 3/4 spots with Okot at the post. Latson and Tessa will get open looks from three with the 3 SC bigs being so dangerous down low. SC will have the best defense in the conference again, same as it ever was lately. This team is final four material, and CDS will likely bring them there.

I don't think your posts about SC and other teams typically generate much wrath except a couple of predictable outliers. I actually enjoy seeing what WBB fans think even if their allegiance is to another school as long as they don't put down the LVs (that is for our fans to do :p). I do think another S. Carolina fan chose to go down a less desirable road by endlessly debating one of the outliers about how great SC is vs how horrible SC (and the state) is. While the SC fan's posts understandably became increasingly defensive (basically we are just great in every way imaginable), I do think the defensive behavior brought a few others into the fray. Welcome back.

I think it is sad that SC and UConn don't play this year. Why, we don't know. I know Dawn didn't like the game so late in the season, and the Big East is making the teams play two more conference games this year. UConn has the depth that may allow them to run the table this year, and SC can do the same. Unfortunately, the game is not on the schedule, so a lot of banter will determine who is best. This means that the Tennessee game is the toughest game on our schedule, and I believe it will be a huge challenge to beat them if Kim plays her cards right. Tenn. has the talent to go far, but if CKC wants to really make this team a serious contender, she may have to tone down her "shock and Awe" tactics a little. Gimmicks are fine when they first appear, but it doesn't translate in the long run. This team has good talent coming in, very good transfer portal work, and of course a core that is already there. The team has enough talent to go far, but the old thing about chemistry is still the common theme of championship teams. The defense is there, the running game is there, but sometimes the three-point shooting is not. Players must be on the court to develop chemistry, and sending in new players every 3 minutes will not help the situation. With the talent CKC has this year, now is the time to show how good a coach she really is. I believe she really is a good coach, but now that the team will be considered a national contender, the chemistry between the players will determine how far the LVs can go. If she does prove she can coach a championship team, we will see you at the final 4.

I get that. She's definitely right. Tough, challenging OOC schedules should be rewarded at seeding time.

But last year the winner of it all was a 2 seed, and the Gamecocks lost to them in the final game. So, the lack of the number 1 overall seed did not hurt them at all. She proved the selection committee wrong as the last 1 seed standing.

So not sure why the hard feelings.

The SEC is a gauntlet, but great OOC games are a way to really measure the progress of a team (and of course good for the game and entertaining for fans). Still, your OOC is pretty tough.

No one will have any idea how good LSU and Maryland are at the beginning of January.

Interesting tidbit...... someone on here said that Dawn Staley couldn't develop big girls. It was a ridiculous statement at the time but right now out of all the players in the WNBA the top 5 rebounders from that entire league.... 3 are former Staley big girls. Aja is No 1, Boston No. 4 and Cardoso is No. 5. That leaves only 2 girls representing every other school in the country a spot in the top 5 in rebounding... Staley can absolutely coach and develop big girls. Okot will absolutely be the next.

Do not ever remember someone saying that here. I have frequently said she is awful at developing guards and that is a fact.

I don’t know, they had enough impact in college to lead many dominant teams, and they all made WNBA rosters, many still in the WNBA. Not sure what your point is other than to put down some players that reached the top level in college and their sport, many of whom are still on WNBA rosters. I don’t care about anyone’s opinion on what is successful and what isn’t, esp from someone I’m not sure has ever reached the top level of success in their profession that is remotely comparable. Smacks of sour grapes and all, but you are entitled to your opinion. Peace.

Side note, my young nephews and nieces use “lmao” still, don’t know many adults that do, but please don't let anyone stop you.
