Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2025-26

Sort of agree and disagree at the same time. Whether PB is back or not, they’re still a team of some of the highest rated players in the country, Fudd will be back and wanting to show what she can do especially while PB is out, they have that Coach, and they will have plenty of time to work on their game without PB. When she comes back, their team will probably be better, just like our team got better to compensate for Rae being out.

On the other hand, our team can outwork them, our Defense is stout, Tamari blocks a lot of shots, our Offense is getting better, and our players are strong minded. We’ll also have a determined Coach. We can beat them.

GO LADY VOLS!!!
Everybody they have is a five star ranked in the top 20 in their class they don't take anyone else except maybe a foreign player now and then. So on paper they will still be the second most talented team in the country if you believe in the hoopgurlz rankings.

jmho, but I think gee no will get off his arse and restart his engine now that the greatest player in the universe (heh) isn't there to bail him out. Look for the old UConn attack to come back. Westbrook will shine, I doubt they lose a game till Dawn's marauders tear into town.

Agree on all that Gule. If PB is not back in time for the UT game, the lineups look like this:

Center: Ododa/Juhasz vs. Key/Saunders (UC)
Fwd: Edwards vs. Dye/Green (push)
Wing: Docharme vs. Darby/Puckett (UT)
PG: Westbrook vs. Walker (UC)
SG*: Williams vs. Horston (push?)

*Fudd not included.

Hate this so much for all, I thought Geno's statement was very nice. Some of ya'll have Geno Derangement Syndrome. It was a super bizarre injury. Feel bad for her.

Maybe UConn players will respond as nicely as ours have. This kind of injury either makes you or breaks you. What does this mean for the Fudd situation, if there is a situation there?
There is no situation. With Fudd. Just some third hand rumors.

She should be back soon and will probably be starting.

I bet she does not start. And I am not including her injury or physical conditioning in this thought, but both could come into play, esp. for someone expected to log starter minutes. She isn't going to start at PG, Westbrook will. Williams starts at SG. So unless Uconn moves her (5'10") to the wing, I think Docharme (6'2") starts there for defensive purposes against bigger players. Fudd will come off the bench.

They play Ga Tech on the ninth at their place. Tech is a team that can be way up or way. I think UConn win but may be a 10 point game. Then home for UCLA another team playing way below their talent. Louisville at home this should be a test even though Louisville is somewhat of a choker on the road. If they get through these three games without a loss got some smooth sailing Big East games for the next several games.

Anyone know who runs the Womenshoopz Instagram? I’ve always assumed it’s a former UCONN player or a UCONN fan.

Doesn’t really matter but I find it annoying that they won’t post the Lady Vols. They very begrudgingly make posts about us if people comment enough about our players accomplishments or point out that we had a big win or an upset. Otherwise they post all kinds of great content. Just not sure why the Lady Vols get no love.

This is true. With as stacked with top players as that roster is, they should be able to cope with the loss of one of them at least as well as Tennessee has so far with two starters from last year out with injuries. Seriously, they should be just fine since they make it well known that all of their players' practices are way harder than games. Sounds to me like Auriemma should have a decent player to plug in there. If he doesn't, then CT is overpaying him.

Likely starting lineup and key reserves w/o P. Bueckers:

C: O. Nelson-Ododa 6'5" 5 star, number 5 in class
F: A. Edwards 6'3" 5 star, top 20 in class
SG: C. Williams 5'11" 5 star, number 1 in class
PG: E. Westbrook 6'0", 5 star number 2 in class
Wing: C. Docharme 6'2", 5 star number 5 in class

Reserves: 6'5" Juhasz, former B1G 1st team All Conference
5'10" Fudd, 5 star number 1 in class (out at least 7 more days)
5'10" Muhl, International player

With PB down for awhile, the numbers for likely all of these players will spike upwards. This is still a formidable group and the absence of Bueckers for awhile will kick start the others to increase their production. Just like the absence of RB has done for many of the UT players.
Completely agree. I expect their seniors to really step up. They’re more than capable. I pray PB is back and completely healthy for the game against UT. I want to beat them at full strength. It’ll make the victory that much sweeter.

We THINK he has good players to plug in, but the team hasn't had enough game experience to blend the new players in. Only 4 games in November, and 3 games were played in 3 days. Next game was Dec 3, not enough games to gain any kind of rotation. Still it is what it is and we have to somehow get through the next couple of months and have others step up as the LVs did without Rae. I don't expect Fudd to come back as soon as they may think as Stress injuries can be lingering. I think Nika Muhl will start at PG Thursday, as she was our starting PG the last 19 games LY until she was injured in the first Tournament game. She isn't a scoring threat, but she does know how to set tempo and she is a fine defender. If Paige is not back until mid February I expect to lose to SC, Louisville, and Tennessee. Actually since Georgia Tech is our first game without her, that team may also be a big challenge.

Kobe Bryant, 2013. "Tibial plateau fx, no surgery, back in 6 weeks," and he missed the last 6 months of the season. I'll believe Bueckers is playing in games in 6-8 weeks when I see it.

Wasn’t PB limping around at the end of our game with them last year, yet she kept playing. Kobe didn’t have Geno for a Coach.

I keep forgetting y'all have played fewer games than everyone else, so that's a good point. If the amazing Fudd can get back by mid-January, I think you will be fine. I also think when your season is over, Bueckers being out for a time is going to provide the depth for the post-season Auriemma says now he lacks and be a real blessing in disguise. This is assuming Bueckers will be back to full strength by then, of course.

Look at Tennessee. If Rae and Marta hadn't gone down our depth obviously wouldn't be where it is now.

They keep raising the goalpost a whole team has a NIL deal you would think companies would want to partner with the winningest WBB program of all time

Like I posted the NIL is a game changer the Tennessee program has to find a way of getting deals with these companies or the recruits are not coming unless they are financially well off already or they got representation that can get them individual deals even if they come to Tennessee

I’d hoped initially that it might just be a sprain and she’d be out only a couple of weeks. But really, this is the second-best outcome for Bueckers, and I’m sure she’ll be counting her blessings soon as it truly sinks in just how much worse it could have been.

The only worry now is whether she’ll be completely honest about how she’s feeling. Only SHE will know the truth, and sometimes young people will become so anxious to get back out on the court or field play that they’ll tell trainers they’re pain free once they reach a point they feel they can tolerate. I know this is true because I was one of those types of young athletes back in the day. A great athlete I was, but not often the brightest bulb in the chandelier. o_O (I was a late bloomer lol)
"Brightest Bulb in the Chandelier" bahahaha!
