Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2025-26

WCBB. Clemson put it to ND yesterday. Notre Dame wasn’t in it from the tip. Main issue they had yesterday was they are reliant on their freshman Westbeld to score almost 20 every night. She didn’t show up until the last few minutes of the game when it was well out of reach. The rest of the team couldn’t pull it together without her leading the way.

Vol fans know all too well how unpredictable relying on Freshman can be. ND was totally out of sorts yesterday. Moving at half speed and got crushed on the glass. Clemson had 18 second chance points to ND’s 2.

I was kidding ... not a good weekend for ND nation on the court/field. But somehow they still get preference over TAMU? I don't get it.

I didn’t understand that one either. Especially after they’ve been embarrassed in bowl games so many times. Why not let the teams play who are going to make it fun to watch? You look at the NFL draft and it’s obvious the SEC is totally stacked. Who cares if 3/4s of the teams in the playoffs are SEC teams? If they’re the best teams that’s who should play. Wish they could have expanded the playoffs this season.

This ☝🏽 all of this ☝🏽. They could expand the playoffs orrrrr ya know put the best 4 teams in there ... SMH ND i guess ND has a slight case with beating NC who was top 15 at the time (sound familiar😂) but i don’t know man. There win against Clemson came without trevor lawrence. The only way they prove they should be there and shut people up is to beat Bama. Tall order for sure!

Washington St. taking it to Oregon right now. They are on fire and can’t miss in the first quarter. I’m sure they’ll cool off but so far they have Oregon on their heels.

Washington State forced Oregon into 5 turnovers in that first quarter. If they can keep up the defensive pressure they might be in for the upset. Oregon really looked out of sorts offensively. Their youth is showing a little. They didn’t get any easy buckets in the first quarter during the course of their motion like the usually do.

Baylor winning back to back games by 93 is just ridiculous if you ask me. Not that these games would gain any new WCBB fans, but those scores ran across tickers all day all across the country. Just in my household alone, "that only happens in women's basketball", "why would I even bother to try watching women's basketball" blah blah. Those scores just look bad for the sport in my opinion.
I get this, but it irritates me more so now because the parity in the women’s game has increased by leaps and bounds the past few years... also there are ALWAYS huge blowouts on the Men’s side and no one ever blows it up like on the women’s side... for example, I bet not many of you heard about these scores 2020-21 Men's Basketball Schedule but rest assured if they were a women’s team losing by those numbers then people would roll their eyes and say the women’s game is so bad...

these scores are CRAZY

Not really. Last year there were only three quality teams in WCBB: Oregon, Baylor, and South Carolina. There were also three more teams that were finally getting it together at the end of the season who had the ability to make a run in the tournament. Which means there were 340-plus WCBB teams that played absolutely god-awful, butt-ugly basketball that was unwatchable by most sports fans. It has been this way for the 30 years I have been following WCBB and I haven't seen anything that would make me think this year will be any different. The names of the top teams may change from year to year, but the number of quality teams varies little. So when I hear how great it is that team XYZ made the Sweet 16, I just roll my eyes because there has never been a year when there were 16 quality teams in WCBB. Making the Sweet 16 is really nothing more than a participation trophy. How many times have we seen a huge blowout in the Sweet 16 between a quality team and a wannabe. The same can be said for teams being ranked in the top 25. There have never been 25 quality teams in WCBB. There are still just a handful of teams that play skillful, aesthetically pleasing basketball, and then there is everyone else.

Way too harsh.

DiDi with the defense as usual! Have loved watching her play. DiDi is one of the few players that made a name for herself on defense alone. I’m not sure what her career aspirations are, but I think she would make a great coach. If she could teach someone else to play defense like she does she’d win a lot of ballgames.
I think she would make an excellent coach but her career passion is modeling.

She has also mentioned sports broadcasting in the past.

Yeah, that's true. Baylor's bench are future starters (Andrews, Gusters) or heavy rotation players (Bickle, Oliver). I'm not sure there's a "heir apparent" on the Tennessee bench.
Queen (foul-o-minute) Ego will lose her starting job to Gusters by mid-conference play. NaLyssa Smith plays better facing the basket and Gusters is beginning to own the paint.

Smith was last week's BIG XII Player of the Week and Gusters was Fr of the Week.

As far as minutes distribution, it's no different than what Tennessee did yesterday...only Baylor's bench was more productive. If Tennessee's bench came out and was hitting their shots, they would have been more than happy keep at it and hit the century mark and beyond.

I haven't watched Baylor this year, is her bench still pressing while up 80 in the 4th quarter? Their cupcake blowouts sure seem to be a lot more "exaggerated" than other top teams...

I've seen a few Baylor games and wouldn't say that their bench is pressing. More of an aggressive man defense. I also think that one reason they blow out cupcake teams so badly is that Baylor's bench is awfully good and there's no let up for the opposing team when Baylor goes deep into their bench.

Gusters must be nice insurance for Kim to know that she's there when Egbo gets in foul trouble. I think Queen is still an awfully good player, and it would be hard to see a compelling reason that she's not playing the bulk of minutes at the 5 unless her foul issues continue to be a problem. When she's on the court, she produces.
