No QB Announcement

It was said in multiple VQ podcasts following the GT game that JG was told he would play in that game. There's my proof.
So your proof for an unnecessary attack on a guy who's gone in an attempt to somehow divert attention from JG's potential maturity issues... were podcasts that may or may not have been complete and correct?

Let's say it is the "worst case scenario" and Dormady loses the job while knowing at some point he would need shoulder surgery. It STILL does not follow that he was a "quitter" (For Darth's benefit). Put yourself in his shoes with the information he likely had at the time- need surgery, the team no longer depends on you, the more healing time you have the better your chances of playing again, the season is already a wash.... None of that adds up to him abandoning the team.

There aren’t any “ current issues” or “legitimate concerns.” You act like he didn’t stay the back up for several games after GT. He did and all the reports were he was a model teammate. It was just a week one thing. The same from this year. Great leader. Model teammate. He didn’t pout the whol year. He had literally one bad week. Then was a team leader by the end of the year.
That's your version. There are many of these same reporters that some consider so authoritative that mention it as a potential issue if he didn't grow up. I hope he did. But unlike you I don't assume he did until he proves he has. He's a young guy and not the first to do something similar that they had to overcome.

Just stop pretending that it isn't a concern. It is until it is proven that it is not. You can't have that from the leader of your team. And no... there were also several reports that suggested (true or not) that JG threatened to transfer or considered it. So things weren't all roses and smiles after that.

Look. I am open minded to him because I never bought into Jones. JG and Dormady are not on opposite sides of the fence to me. Both were guys who bought Jones' used car pitch. Dormady like several others very likely had potential never realized because of Jones. Fortunately for JG... he gets a 2nd chance with a staff that appears to be led by a real football coach.

FTR, if there is even one ounce of truth that Jones "promises" him he would play vs GT... then Jones should have been fired on the spot. Coaches can't make deals like that. It ties their hands and obviously has the potential to de-motivate multiple players.

So, who's starting at QB Saturday?
Has anyone said?

If someone comes out and reports that one guy or the other is going out first with the 1's and getting the most reps with the 1's then that's your starter.

I hope because of physical upside that JG has matured mentally and emotionally and has won the job. He has IMO the best arm at UT since at least Bray if not Manning. If he is in fact popular with the team then all the better. If not then I hope KC has somehow made significant strides or else has flourished in Helton's system... because he didn't look the part while playing for Stanford.

To me, the worst possible scenario is that they go into the first game splitting reps. Hopefully Pruitt is a coach who can make a decision in a close competition.

Volquest is as accurate as it gets. The fact of the matter is that anything that doesn't align with your agenda isn't accurate or "may or may not be accurate".

I never said anything about Dormady quitting. My point is that he was playing terrible against GT up until halftime, and JG never took a snap even though he was told that he was going to play. That's a fact whether you choose to believe it or not.

Yep, that’s the way I remember it. 😀

What agenda? I hope JG has matured. Is that a bad hope? I don't believe that Dormady bailed on his teammates in some bad way. Is that somehow offensive to you or JG or anyone else?

Precisely what agenda other than defending a former Vol have I pursued?

The posts of several people have kind of merged. If you weren't part of those claiming QD "quit" the team then I sincerely apologize.

Again, it matters how Jones told JG that. If he told him to be prepared to play then that's different from saying he promised him he would play. If it was the latter... Jones shouldn't have coached the next game. He already botched other player situations including Hurd and Kamara. Players had already left the program suggesting he'd broken promises. I'm glad to have him gone but it should have been sooner.

I'm also gonna apologize for getting aggressive in my response. That wasn't necessary for me to do so. I do believe JG has matured is what I'm ultimately saying.

Whoever it is I hope we don’t have to see the other one because he is moving the offense and scoring TDs
Amen. There are too many potential problems on this team to add a QB competition or controversy that runs several games into the season.

I will add this though. I hope the starter this year gets a leash that long before being yanked. Dormady played better in the 2nd half. Some of the problems in the 1st half weren't on him.

Especially if it is JG... I hope a bad 1st half vs WVU doesn't get him a quick hook.

FWIW - 247 has an article saying that Pruitt is leaving the door open to playing two QBs (didn't say names) and that "we'll have to figure it out as we go along". Not showing his hand.

Would love to see us win the toss, take the ball, and score on a long first drive. Then do it again. With one QB. If you want to see what the other one can do, let’s see him against the cupcakes the next two weeks.

He’s just making sure WVU has to prepare for two QB’s Instead of one. Ultimately I don’t see us playing two unless the game gets ugly early. If our number 1 is doing his job, then it’s gonna be his show.

This whole discussion was because I made up some stupid BS with no basis in fact and got butthurt when I was called on it. I probably shouldn't have taken the bait but I hate to see someone's name unfairly trashed on scant hearsay and assumptions. There was really no need or call for it... other than to divert attention from a real issue with a current UT player who we really, really need to mature and perform.

I feel that they may scheme slightly differently if they expected to face Gurantano and his mobility. Maybe I'm wrong though

Serious question, not trying to be offbase here or sarcastic. Is JG a dual threat in the true sense or not?

I could do without that. If that is accurate and not just fodder for WV to ponder, then apparently no one has created separation in the QB race. I still think the best case scenario is that JG has distanced himself enough to not make this much of a decision and we just don't know about it due to tight lips and very little media access during camp. We'll see soon I guess. I hope whoever it is they are given a fighting chance to move the ball this year.

Never called him a quitter. My only point was ever that what he didn’t was worse than JG pouting. And I never thought that was much of an issue to begin with.

I guess it’s harder to be so self righteous if you allow any nuance into the discussion, though.

Also, you’ve still not provided a single reference or proof that he was told he wouldn’t be able to play in 2018 if he didn’t need have surgery and haven’t admitted that it it was just made up 😁

I don't think he has shown any indication of possessing that capability. I swear I think they pushed him to "be more like Dobbs" and make something positive happen on busted plays, but he ain't no Dobbs.

How is leaving a program as a grad transfer worse than pouting on the bench with your team locked in a tight game?

You would certainly know. Especially considering your "fyp" in bold above.

Don't need one. Do you really struggle with the concept that another month or two of recovery time between surgery and the beginning of a training camp improves the chances of being able to play? Is your whole disagreement with me really based on that?

On the nation with Chris Lowe CJP was asked about if he would name a starter this week and he answered, we will see in Charlotte who the starter is. So more fun this week speculating 🤔!!!!
