No chemistry - not our fault

Is the old dumpster fire reference even relevant in year 5? It's all your guys and you own it. 5 years to build or F it up. No one's complaining about next season YET. Wouldn't be as bad if Barnes didn't constantly talk about family and knowing his guys. then he's blind sided by Bone, the NCAA(Uros) and now Turner. He was 71% getting to the tourney before he got here and you expect everyone to be satisfied with 40% in year 5 here. Situation intensified by the UCLA and raise incident. That's not how this world rolls

They beyatching in year 5 is about the recruiting in years 2, 3, and 4. The dumpster fire absolutely is a direct cause of the roster being so out of balance. And consistent NCAAT appearances are a key element. Missing it in years 1 and 2 affects signees for year 3... and then the roster is loaded with upperclassmen, which is not an attractive situation and limits TN's ability to get their top targets.

Why would a highly sought after recruit want to go to a program that had 3 coaches in 3 years, having missed the NCAAT for 3 straight years, play for a 60 year old coach that followed up his firing with consecutive seasons of missing the post season, with a upperclass heavy roster, and coaches that had not been selling TN to them for the last 5 or 6 years? They wouldn't. Some less than ideal signees were added and the results were pretty predictable.

If Burns and Walker weren't knuckleheads, if Blackshear had signed, if Uros was eligible, if Bone hadn't left, if Turner hadn't gotten worse... but $5 million, but he flirted with UCLA, but it's year 5.

Criticism is fair, and warranted...however these things do happen and it seems a bit like a perfect storm. Prior to Turner’s shoulder worsening we were ranked Top 20 and appeared as a shoe in for the NCAAT, so Barnes did have us in position to make the dance yet again, unfortunately injuries do happen.
We're all tired of the ole Shite Happens motto at TN and seems like every sport. Maybe some day soon we fork out 2 hundred million and hire Dabo. I'm just tired of having hopes dashed and walking to the back a the bus.

Rosters from year to year are relevant. Pretty sure they wanted to redshirt Kyle Alexander but couldn’t afford to do it. He would be on this team if they could have done that. I know they have known about it for three years now, but those type decisions effect the future.

I do agree that it was a little more difficult to recruit in year 2 when there were 4 sophomores/junior who were getting a majority of playing time.

Plus, Barnes’ complaint that he wasn’t getting the full support for basketball and everyone bought in after two NCAAT appearances.

It sucks, but this was always going to be a transition year. I was going to sneak into the NCAAT, but that will be tough now.

Like I pointed out. UNC is 7-5 with some pretty bad losses...should they can Roy? What about when UK lost Nerlens Noel and they limped into the NIT? It does happen unfortunately, if we miss next year (assuming we miss this year) I will worry.

We had 3 open scholarships heading into last fall, we signed James/Gaines/Pember...as we headed out of winter it was looking more and more like Williams was gone, we added ORN, making us likely full again.

Bone leaves, Walker leaves and at that point they opt to add Bailey who is a guy they like, and then Plavsic who they like and thought for sure would win his appeal. They miss on Blackshear, Burns situation happens and he leaves and at that point the pickings are pretty darn slim.

There are a lot of things that can be questioned, I don’t think necessarily how they handled this class is a big deal, 2018 seems a bigger issue to me...add in that and some unfortunate events and this is what you get.

How much different does this team look with a healthy Lamonte Turner, DJ Burns and an eligible Uros Plavsic? Essentially you’re combining the misses in a 2018 recruiting class, with guys losing waiver appeals, and guys having season ending injuries...not a great mix.
It still puzzles me that Burns and Walker would leave when the playing times for them was there this season.

Walker left first...at that point we had Plavsic, Kent and Burns all on the roster and assuming they were playing, reports had been that Burns was getting then better of walker so I’m guessing he assumed he would be behind those guys.

Then Burns leaves and and Plavsic isn’t eligible, Kent ends up leaving too...I am not sure what happened with Burns, kinda seems like maybe neither side had much of a choice on that one.

Just simply not a very good team. If you don't have perimeter shooting then you better have bigs that can dominate up front, score and own the glass. We have neither.

I agree. It's not chemistry or the lack of a PG. This roster just lacks talent.
