Is the old dumpster fire reference even relevant in year 5? It's all your guys and you own it. 5 years to build or F it up. No one's complaining about next season YET. Wouldn't be as bad if Barnes didn't constantly talk about family and knowing his guys. then he's blind sided by Bone, the NCAA(Uros) and now Turner. He was 71% getting to the tourney before he got here and you expect everyone to be satisfied with 40% in year 5 here. Situation intensified by the UCLA and raise incident. That's not how this world rolls
They beyatching in year 5 is about the recruiting in years 2, 3, and 4. The dumpster fire absolutely is a direct cause of the roster being so out of balance. And consistent NCAAT appearances are a key element. Missing it in years 1 and 2 affects signees for year 3... and then the roster is loaded with upperclassmen, which is not an attractive situation and limits TN's ability to get their top targets.
Why would a highly sought after recruit want to go to a program that had 3 coaches in 3 years, having missed the NCAAT for 3 straight years, play for a 60 year old coach that followed up his firing with consecutive seasons of missing the post season, with a upperclass heavy roster, and coaches that had not been selling TN to them for the last 5 or 6 years? They wouldn't. Some less than ideal signees were added and the results were pretty predictable.
