No band, not even a pep band

I really wanted our band to be there too. I was on row 5 though singing Rockytop with fellow Vol fans. It would have been better though with the Pride. Go Vols!

Well. If having the band there is important to you. give that feedback to the Athletic Department. Don't just do it on the forums.

Keep the feedback constructive and it might impact change.

I would think our AD could find the funds to at least send a pep band to all away games.

Fans singing is great but add a pep band to it and it's much better and adds lots to what's heard on TV as well.

We ARE Tennessee and people all over the country will soon be watching our great footVol team adding up the WINS and we should be well heard as well as watched.

#BrickbyBrick...VFL...GBO!!!

Mizzou students threatened a hunger strike, and to fire everyone working at UT (down to the janitor) if anyone brought any kind of pride for the Southland into heir stadium.

Yeah like getting us out of the red and building our reserve, hiring a HOF basketball coach, signing us to Nike to bring in a boat load of money.

Yeah, he is awesome. SMDH

Just ask Donnie Tyndall, anyone who has had to play a game at Neyland the last few weeks, anyone associated with the Lady Vols, or Debbie Jennings.

His keen eye for coaches would have also had Charlie Strong roaming the sidelines at Neyland as well and we see how that is going for Texas.

He isn't the only AD in the country to sign with Nike or competent enough to balance a budget and get out from under coaching buyouts.

The biggest drawback that I would have seen from the band going, would have been hearing Rocky Top as they carried Coach Pinkel off the field. I may get slammed, but I am glad that didn't happen.

Seems fairly obvious there's been a systematic reduction to the bands involvement in games. It's almost as if they are reluctantly tolerated at all. More piped music, third down for what, etc. and cutting back on when to send even a small pep band. You can't tell me there's not a few thousand in that $100m budget to send some drums and brass five hours away.

Fair point, but Pride wouldn't have flown if they went, AD is too cheap for that. So much longer than a 5 hour trip.

Of course it isn't. But it's the first time in a very long time, and the first that I can recall.

Unfortunately, it's not. Since Hart took over, we have not taken a pep band to Arkansas 2011, Oregon and Missouri in 2013, Oklahoma last year and Missouri this year.

In days past, for a long trip like Oregon or Oklahoma or even Arkansas, the University would get a larger charter plane and the pep band and cheerleaders would travel on the plane. For trips close enough to drive, they would bus. Hart does not believe in that, leaving the team charter for the players and staff.

They had the option to bus to Oklahoma last year and Missouri this year, but declined for the opportunity to take the full band on another trip instead of a pep band to each.

And it's definitely the better move marching band wise to take the full band
