So I just left Gamestop because I wanted to see if they had any information regarding preorders. As I am walking in the door, the young lady behind the counter is on a teams call with other managers and she suddenly yells out "**** you Toby!!" Right there on the sales floor! I had to stop and take a moment to let the professionalism waft over me!

Oh and they think May 8th will be the new preorder date in the U.S.

Preorder date in the US starts April 24th. Here's the announcement from Nintendo.

Retail pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 will begin on April 24, 2025. At launch, the price for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will remain as announced on April 2 at $449.99, and the Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle will remain as announced at $499.99. Pricing for both physical and digital versions of Mario Kart World ($79.99) and Donkey Kong Bananza ($69.99) will also remain unchanged at launch.

However, Nintendo Switch 2 accessories will experience price adjustments from those announced on April 2 due to changes in market conditions. Other adjustments to the price of any Nintendo product are also possible in the future depending on market conditions.

We apologize for the retail pre-order delay, and hope this reduces some of the uncertainty our customers may be experiencing. We thank our customers for their patience, and we share their excitement to experience Nintendo Switch 2 starting June 5, 2025.

Anybody else grab a preorder?
I didn’t. I hope this isn’t going to be like the Wii where it took forever to get one. It shouldn’t unless Nintendo purposefully keeps the supply low to keep demand high. It’s not ground breaking tech and there aren’t any major releases with it so surely it’ll be available August/September.

Aren't any major releases? Maybe not third party, but for Nintendo there certainly are.. and that's why anyone buys their consoles in the first place.

Not with the system, well, unless Mariokart does it for you. I wouldn’t think that would be a needle mover for purchasing an entirely new system though. Metroid is coming soon but not at launch. No Mario, no Zelda.

It was a little annoying early Thursday morning but I ended up with the bundle from Target and the base console from Walmart (to leave sealed in case a software vulnerability is found; let's be honest, piracy on any Nintendo console through either software/hardware vulnerability is a question of when not if). Excited for Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza, nothing else this year is necessarily jumping out at me so this feels disappointing in some ways relative to 2017 with BOTW/MK8D/Splatoon 2/Odyssey.

It seems as if Walmart especially keeps getting units into stock, so I really don't think getting one is going to prove too difficult if you miss out on preorders.

Walmart online was taken down. Are you going in person? How do you know they keep getting units for preorder?

Having it shipped. I want to say that Walmart says June 7th for me while Target is by the 11th, though I suspect both arrive on the 5th.

The console was flat in stock at Walmart yesterday morning, you could search/add to cart/checkout with little fanfare (did not try myself beyond adding to cart). There’s a preorder megathread on the NintendoSwitch2 subreddit that highlights availability, and you can also follow Wario64 on Twitter for updates.

Saw a bunch of people at a Best Buy camping out yesterday. Saw a bunch of pics online of folks camping out around the country.

Walked into Walmart this afternoon about 1:30pm and noticed there's still half a dozen sitting in the case. Didn't expect that. Been a long time since someone could casually buy a new console on release day.

Wait seriously? Maybe I need to run up to Wal Mart.

Preorders failed me with shipment delays so I want to Walmart at 6:00 and it was no issue whatsoever to get one. Only four people in line, no idea how many systems but the only concern was getting someone to the back rooms to grab them.

Nintendo was serious about getting a bunch into this country for launch.
