Nico, $ and FAFO

There will be plenty of attempts to somehow “rehabilitate” Nico in the coming months and years, even by some in our own fanbase, just like with Kiffin. “Oh, he just wanted to go home” . . . “Well, that is how college football is today” . . . “Wouldn’t you try for a bigger payday?” Blah, blah.

Nico shoved a knife in our ribs through his timing of this stunt. He took reps from Merk and Mac all Spring that would have been better spent on them. And he timed it to be the most difficult for our program to find another quality scholarship QB to compete. Oh, and he was asking for top tier $ after a lower mid-tier performance. He wasn’t even in the top 5 of QBs in the SEC.

Any talk of “brotherhood” by him should be met with laughter and ridicule. F-him and his entire D-bag family. You don’t mess-over an organization and expect sympathy or support.

I think there could be a lot of truth in here.

All Nico has right now is potential. Because if you look at the hard numbers against good to better competition so far, they are mediocre at best. I would love to know CJH’s true thoughts after spring practice…but I doubt we ever will.

In 14 starts, he failed to hit the 200-yard mark in 9 of them.

In 8 SEC starts, he only had 9 TD passes…and 4 came against Vandy.

In short, our coaching staff worked a miracle to go 10-2 in the regular season.
And, I might add, he had a helluva running game to prop him up.

I'd say the biggest reason this past season was a success and not a flop was Rodney Garner. Without that D, it would have been a long haul.

I fear that with best buddy's inability to develop OL and the absolute WR exodus, matched with a Freshman QB (Heupel shows no signs of urgency to get a starting QB OR fix the OL/WR issues) this is going to be a long, long, LONG season.

Nico Iamaleava is reportedly set to receive a $1.5 million deal from UCLA. However, this deal is likely to be significantly reduced by California taxes, potentially bringing the take-home amount to around $800,000. This is significantly less than the $4 million he was reportedly seeking from Tennessee.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:
  • Initial Rumored Deal:
Front Office Sports reported Iamaleava was looking at a $1.5 million deal with UCLA.

  • Potential After Taxes:
The US Sun estimated that after California taxes, Iamaleava's take-home pay could be closer to $800,000.

  • Tennessee NIL Deal:
Iamaleava was reportedly set to receive around $2 million annually in NIL payments from Tennessee before transferring.

  • Initial Demand:
Iamaleava was reportedly asking for around $4 million, which is considered to be near the top of the quarterback market.

  • UCLA's Offer:
NBC News stated that UCLA's offer was "not remotely close" to his $4 million target.

We keep assuming that he is going to crash and burn in LA but that may not be the case at least perception wise. IF he doesn't this will be much more common in the Spring. Either way, it's terrible for College Football

He’ll end up netting around half of what he woulda netted from Tennessee.

Cal state tax is in the ballpark of 15%.
Likely a LA city tax, too.
Federal taxes are essentially a wash.

All of this to play for a lesser team in a lesser college football market.

Iamamoron
UCLA will improve to 6-6. The Vols will regress to 6-6. At least the Vols will do so with a QB cost savings.

Yes … but how much will he owe his agent? Family help? Paying for the move? Housing for the family in LA? More taxes on wheeled vehicles? Crazy high auto/home/health insurance? Fire Insurance? Also Nico’s injury insurance policy?

He’s going to end up owing money.

Think it's gonna be handed to him. They will try to make a statement with this signing
It's almost guaranteed. Your can't throw the bank at a player and then sit him. Unless he just completely caves, he'll start. NFL draft does this to rookie QBs all the time. Even when they're not ready

It goes both ways. He has no time to practice and learn UCLA system and playbook. Looking forward to seeing him suck.

After watcing & listening to the HC DeShaun Foster in a press conference, I feel kinda bad for the UCLAn nation. Foster isn't exactly a human dynamo, & he must deal with the I'm-A-Leave-Ya debacle.
