4. Joshua Dobbs, Tennessee: He's rarely mentioned on the national scene, but there is buzz building around Dobbs' prospects as a QB1. The 6-3, 210-pound senior is a slippery dual-threat playmaker with the tools to become a star at the next level. Sure, that has been said about a lot of mobile quarterbacks with big arms and impressive collegiate resumes, but Dobbs also has the intangibles (football IQ, leadership skills and poise) to dominate the game with the ball in his hands. He has teased Vols fans with his impressive flashes (see Georgia 2015 and South Carolina 2014), but scouts want to see him consistently overwhelm opponents with his feet and arm before anointing him as an elite prospect at the position. With a slate of games against tough SEC competition awaiting him, Dobbs will have every opportunity to show evaluators that he can be a dynamic weapon as a QB1 at the next level.

I told you guys the NFL is alot higher on Dobbs than you think. He has the measureables and the tools. He's flashed elite talent. Its all about CONSISTENCY.

If he shows consistency this fall, Dobbs will be a lock as a 1st round pick.

NFL teams will be fighting over a chance to draft him.

Anybody think that if Derrick Henry has a good year with the Titans that it might help Hurd go higher in the draft since they are similar in size?

Henry will be a bust.. Ron Dayne2.0. No lateral speed. Hurd is a 3 down back and will be a star in the NFL

Agreed. All Henry had to do was blast through huge holes and outrun people on the second level; Hurd already has plenty of experience fighting for yards behind a bad line.

Hurd reminds me a lot of Arian Foster, both in play style (great size, great quickness, good hands, etc.) and in the fact that he could actually be more productive in the pros than he was in college.

I know they didn't directly attribute that quote to Dobbs, but in the context, it's pretty clear they are saying Dobbs has a big arm. That, along with the early reports from fall practice, will hopefully quiet down some of the fans who have questioned Dobbs arm strength. And, hopefully Dobbs will prove them wrong this fall :pilot:

Hurd reminds me of a bigger Eric Dickerson but not as fast

Hurd and Henry are nothing alike as running backs outside of the similar size. Hurd runs with much better agility, balance, cutting ability, and acceleration. He's also a much better pass catcher.

Hurd's NFL prospects will stand on its own merit. Nothing Henry does will have any effect.

You'll get no argument from me. I'm a big fan of Dobbs but I do want to see the consistency. It hasn't happened yet. I'm thinking this year it will, but unlike the OP I don't have a crystal ball proclaiming it has already happened.

The idea of him finally having a solid receiving group gets me fired up though.

Anyone who questions Dobbs arm strength has either never watched him play or doesn't know anything about football.

He's no John Elway, but his arm is strong enough to warrant 1st round consideration.

His issue is consistency. Consistently showing that arm talent every game and every down rather than every now and then.

First round is a reach, but I agree that he's definitely on the radar for NFL scouts. As a college prospect, I would put Dobbs somewhere between Russell Wilson (3rd round pick) and Tyrod Taylor (6th round pick). Dobbs hasn't shown good (much less elite) accuracy in college like Wilson, but he's already proven he has the same kind of athleticism and intangible leadership qualities as Taylor and Wilson. Their success in the league should bode well for Dobbs' draft stock.

Excited to see what Dobbs does this year with such a loaded offense.

From reading that it sounds more like he has potential but needs to prove himself this season.

If he doesn't improve his passing game I doubt he gets drafted...obviously, we all hope he does.

Not to take away from the point of the thread, but being a Titans fan I had to address this. Ron Dayne was 5.10 and weighed 250lbs, just like a big slow bowling ball. Nothing like Derrick Henry. Henry is much more talented than Ron Dayne and will be an awesome compliment to Murray this season. Ok carry on :)

1st round talent does not equal 1st round pick, especially at QB. A team's 1st round pick is almost always based on need. We won't really know which teams will need a QB until after the NFL season plays out. Also NFL teams are hesitant on using high draft picks on QBs who have only been really good for 1 season. Also Dobbs doesn't take snaps under center so every team would have to retrain him, kind of like the Titans have with Marriota. If Dobbs balls out this year with his arm and leadership, I could see him going 3rd or 4th.
As a side note, I would not be surprised if a team drafted him earlier with the hopes of turning him into a WR

See, that's my problem with him. He does not seem consistent in the passing game against the better teams. In fairness, that might be a team issue more than an issue unique to him. I do not claim to be an expert in his velocity and accuracy in those games, it's just my overall impression that his decision making against tougher secondaries is markedly slower than against average teams.

No.

If Dobbs has the exact same year he had last year he will still get drafted. Most likely in the 4th to 5th round. NFL teams would take the gamble purely based on his potential.

If he improves, he'll go into the 1st to 2nd round range. QBs are extremely valuable. Look no further than how far up the draft board guys like Carson Wentz and Jared Goff were pushed. Someone will fall in love with his measurables and intangibles.

I love Dobbs as a college QB. Don't see much as a pro because the NFL is a passing league, and he has yet to show consistent accuracy or touch as a passer. Having him above Rosen on that list is just silly.

Agreed, arm strength won't be the issue with NFL potential. If Dobbs can show he will be able to make accurate throws consistently he'll be right there with most anyone in the draft given his athleticism and ridiculous "intangibles". The problem is...that's a pretty big "if"...otherwise everybody could do it.

Accuracy AND decision making (going thru all progressions). He has pretty good arm strength and is still getting stronger. I believe the NFL has no questions about his mental abilities, but they'll want to see him read plays and THROW to his 3rd/4th option accurately, BEFORE taking off on the run.
They'll love his mobility and toughness, but not many in the NFL are so ignorant as to think they can succeed long term with a run-first type.

As posted earlier, QB's going in the early rounds are purely based on need. Taking a QB in the first round is much riskier than other positions. No team other than Cleveland will take a huge risk there. Dobbs just simply does not have the accuracy to go that high.
