I gotcha. It would be an interesting story for sure.

Sorry, not trying to be a rear end, but just saying it doesn't really matter anyone's opinion now including my own. He's the freaking coach. (Aight? ;)) But I would love to know how this blew up again... fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. Never again with Gruden.

Back off the ledge GV. She's a lawyer. She'll sue you for poor performance.

It's all in fun and games. Just being playful.

However, wait until Volly drops by and sees that picture. You'll see a significant hot flash like this occur:

While we don't know, I'm going to guess it had more to do with Gruden than PF.

The truth is, we’ll never know the real story. I’m putting it to bed once and for all because I’ve spent more time thinking about Jon Gruden than any reasonable person should.

Gruden is what, 54? God forbid, we have to do this again in five years, he'll be pushing 60. This was the last chance to get him in here. It sucks but I'm ready to move on.

My suspicion, and it's a lot of people's suspicion that Currie and Haslam intentionally screwed it up. AV alluded to giving more of the story when the dust settled. I suspect some of that will come out at the right time.

Me personally, I'm ready to move on. Have been for a little while, although I would have been ecstatic if Gruden were announced yesterday. I think we have a good coach with what will be a great staff. I didn't think that with Dooley or Butch. We should be in great hands.

This...a thousand times. (fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. Never again with Gruden.)

I’ve got one more thought about CJP and it may be a tad bit controversial. And please try to understand my intent as This isn’t a like or dislike him post.
At this moment, I don’t think CJP will ever be a genuine VFL. I believe he took a great job and will use his expertise to excel at this job because of his skill set. I believe he will build his staff at a high level, win a lot of games and possibly even championships. I see him like a coach in the NFL. They may have just coached as an OC Dallas and then takes the Dolphins HC job. It’s climbing the corporate ladder. Now, he may stay here long enough to fall in love with the community, the maxims, the culture, etc. But if he takes us to a championship level while honoring the traditions, history and culture of TN and never falls in love with us, I’m okay with it.

Thoughts?

I think less than 24 hours after the official announcement it's hard to tell.

I might might might still be a Vol fan. I ageee with Doyle, it is so hard to give it up. Pruitt said all the right things....

You’re right. And many of his answers were pretty emotionless. Hey, I’m okay with it. Just honor TN and win.

Truth be told, I don't think many coaches these days ever qualify for "pure homer" status. Being they move around so much, it's hard to find one school to call "home."

Having said that to say this, Pruitt certainly spent quite a bit of time in Bama.

That’s exactly my point. I think we may put too much stock in being a “Tennessee guy”. I wasn’t born here. My family moved to TN when I was 11. I was raised as a child in La but after my first TN game, TN moved in me. Never been the same. The greatness of our school and State is that if you allow yourself, you can fall in love with it pretty easily. I hope that happens to CJP. It’ll take some Ajax and lost of hot water to get that bama stinch off of him though.

I don’t think Charlie realizes how old I am. I’m just aging well because the alcohol pickling me😜

Doh. I just now got the it’s always sunny reference.

I think you and I could be very good friends.

It's rare to have a Phil Fulmer or Johnny Majors who is an alum and good head coach. Tee or Jim Bob or even a Kacy Rodgers might be that someday but they aren't ready now.

So did anyone see where Schiano ended up? I’m sure he had tons of schools pulling at him in many different directions. 😒

I agree, if for no other reason that that he keeps moving on (and up) every 2-3 years.

It can’t ALL be due to trouble with nightlife and women. I think he has a plan, and we’re a rung on the ladder to his eventual goal.

If so, he has to stay here long enough to demonstrate results for the next promotion. If he does, I’m resigned to it, because this should get UT back into the fight with a better search next round.

Things here didn’t go to hell overnight, and they won’t turn around overnight either. JMO IMO PDQ MPH RSVP

I agree with this 100%. I think when it’s your profession, you have a slightly different perspective. I went to UT law with Chavis’ son. Once Chavis left for LSU, I would see his son’s Facebook posts wholeheartedly rooting for LSU even when they played UT. I always thought it was strange until my sister married a basketball coach. Her husband played basketball at a smaller college, then was a GA, then went on to be an assistant coach. However, after several years he wanted to be more than an assistant. This past year, he finally landed his first head coaching job at another college. So, my sister, her husband and my brand new nephew moved and didn’t look back. I never hear her husband talk about his alma mater and I don’t think he’d bolt for the HC job if it became available. Bottom line is, I think with coaches and their families, their allegiance is to their livelihood.
