What is gonna p!ss me off is even if we get back to winning, some 'Bama a$$hole is gonna say 'yea, but you had to come get one of ours to bail you out'. I already hate knowing that will happen, but we gotta start winning first ...

Yes, Saban is a big part of it I agree, but Pruitt had nation's #1 scoring defense when he was at FSU so he probably does know a littl D.

Not saying he doesn't know anything, just that Saban seems to be the overarching theme among these dominant Bama defenses. Pruitt seems to be Butch 2.0 but with some X's and O's knowledge. I think we'll get tired of winning 8 or 9 a year again in 5 years or so. At least we'll make bowl games though, unlike if we had landed Schiano.

Totally agree with you on the Saban overarching theme ... no doubt.

I hate (no I don't) to say this, but after this is over, I hope Gruden takes the Giants job and they wallow in misery.

Good morning, everyone. Glad to have a new home for this wonderful community, and Neyland is a great name for it.

It appears we're about to have a new head coach. He's not a household name, at least not yet. He's not a "splash" hire. He's not an offensive genius. He's not a Vol for Life. In fact, he has exactly zero days of previous UT affiliation.

Got it.

So here's what I'm gonna do, the minute he is formally announced as our head coach: I'm gonna back him. 100%. He will be wearing orange, and trying to win championships while coaching our lads.

That's good enough for me. He has my full support.

We still have a few hours to get our thoughts out before that switch gets thrown, so I will totally understand if people use the time to air their frustrations with things that weren't, or might have been.

At the end of the day, though, you fight the battle you find yourself in, not the one you wish you had.

If you can't, you go find some other team to support, or give up football altogether. I understand. I don't agree, but do understand.

For me, I'm all Vol. For life. Hoping for great things with Coach Pruitt.

Go Vols!

I'll always cheer on the Vols but a dyed in the wool bammer brought in as HC...just excuse me, I need some time to swallow that.

JP, I remember one thread you made, something about what it would take for Vol fans to be satisfied and I replied "winning takes care of everything". I have a different perspective on that now. Satisfaction is on a continuum and winning will swing the needle a long way but winning with UT connected blood at the top is the pinnacle.

Was Cutcliffe ever our head coach?

Did we hire Cutcliffe from the outside for one of the top 3 positions first (HC, DC, OC)?

No.

Cut worked his way up through Tennessee's ranks for a DECADE before he took over as OC.

It's not the same. Not even close to being the same. Just like how Kirby Smart's situation isn't the same. "But he was uh coordeenatur and nevar a head coach!" Yea, and what record did Georgia have in the previous year? Previous 4 years? How many seniors did they have coming back this year?

We are a dumpster fire and needed someone with sitting head coach experience so they know what they're doing and how to manage a staff, and a big name to attract recruits. We got neither. Miles and Leach would have been better hires.

It took Tennessee 25 days to make this hire. Look at Texas A&M, FSU, Arkansas, Florida, I mean the list just goes on forever.

This isn't a Gruden thing. It isn't an anti-Pruitt thing. It's Tennessee being run like a joke for the last decade or more. And this hire is not a salve to any of it.
Or we can look at it this way ...how many days did it take Phil to make a solid hire that after we got rid of Currie and “ other “ influences ? We are at a low point , the lowest point that we’ve ever been in terms of our national reputation . The fans know it , the media knows it and we had to have a shake up to get rid of some garbage that was keeping us from competing on a high level . Did we get what we wanted ? No , that’s life most of the time we don’t get what we want . Did we get a solid Coach that that knows football and been mentored by some of the greatest coach in football ? Yes we did . I think the kids will love him , I think the fans will support him , if he can surround himself with great coaches like Phil did , we will be golden again . Imho

Charlie, I have been gritting my teeth for ten years now. I really thought and had high hopes that UT would go big and really try to right the ship, it didn't have to be Gruden but a big time splash hire.

Our team is as far down as I have seen since I have been a fan and I just don't see Pruitt being the guy to bring us out of this very deep hole. The splash was needed to get the recruits to take notice but we hired a project.

I'm with you man. I was really hoping it was something worth getting excited over. Gruden, sure. But Petersen or Patterson would have listened. Nevermind we seemed to have ignored them. Hell, even Mullen or Les with Tee would have been better than this.

With Pruitt, I'm checked out. My dad probably won't renew his tickets. My uncle probably will but I won't go with him. Not that I could. I just don't think this will work and frankly I'm dissappointed we have sunk this low. Recruits won't blink an eye at this. Forget Lawrence, we may not even keep Mays. I am sick and tired of begrudgingly admitting I'm a UT fan instead of being proud of it.

I'm having a hard time being excited about this. It feels like more of the same.

If we are winning, I don't give a crap what they have to say about it!

I understand what you are saying I’d love that too but then I’d have to ask myself this , would I be pissed if we turned down ... Dabo , Jimbo , or Kirby as our Head Coach because of their ties to Bama . We all know the answer to that lol

I am right there with you. Jeremy Pruitt will have to prove it to me before I buy into him. I am still not seeing why this will be a good hire...how many time has he had to manage a game...ie make down and distance decisions or manage time outs. There were guys that had made those decisions and were good at it, that had a track record. Football is more than recruiting and defense.

Yup. Same boat brother. I'm done with guys who have never done this before on this stage. At least Miles has had this pressure before. It's insane to me that we think this is a great idea. So many other people would have said yes had we not made ourselves look like the insane girl at prom who is willing to do anything to sleep with the homecoming king. **** the Haslams.

I know everyone will say it's not their fault, we reVOLted and Fulmer made the hire but the reality is as long as the Haslams are involved with this program we will continue to be the epitome of mediocre. It doesn't take a genius to see the common denominator. The Haslams are the ultimate reason for this mess and until they remove themselves from the situation, we will continue to forever stew in college football purgatory. If you need proof, the Cleveland Browns say hello.

I like this group, glad to be here in Neyland I. I'll give Pruitt a chance. Probably slowly at first, and without too much investment. It's like when you have your heart broken and you must learn to love again. If he does well, there's no reason why we shouldn't enjoy it.

I hate that he's a Bama lifer, but I like that he's nothing like Butch Jones or Derek Dooley. He appears to be a great coaching coach - something we've been missing for a long time. I'm hopeful we finally see the return of a defense to be feared. It looks like the administration might actually support him, and we know how great Tennessee can be with the right people in charge. We have the resources to compete with anyone.

Somebody help me out. If Pruitt has as much potential as I'm hearing from some people how come he was still available? Search and saw his name was mentioned w/ USCe and MissSu but didn't see anything else.

Not hating on him I just don't understand. BVS is a muther.

I don’t either. He has a history of severe conflict with other coaches on the FSU staff and the Georgia staff. Some called him toxic and a cancer on the GA staff. Richt fired him for just that reason. Lots of sideline scuffles and arguments - I really only know about his time on the GA staff and it wasn’t pretty.

I know...because no one else wanted him and I am still not sure why Vols fans are acting like we just made a good hire. The reasons I have heard are: 1. He's a great recruiter...at Alabama, I would be a great recruiter.
2. He has great defenses...Saban has great defenses, Kirby Smart did just as well and Saban could put whoever in a DC and they will have a great defense.

One of his national recruiters of the year awards was won when he was not at bama.
