Neyland I (Formerly known as Gruden Thread)

Yep as this wears off I will eventually gather the boot straps pick myself up and pull for my Orange as I always do. It is how I am wired. At the end of the day although I was Gruden all the way this hire may not end up terrible. Time will tell. Hell the next 13 days will tell.

I wanted a big one. I'm not thrilled with this hire.

But, at the end of the day, I fully believe Pruitt is better than Schiano, Doeren, and some of the other crap that came out. And I do believe that we'll start performing with a fantastic defense.

I also have concerns, which I think should be allowed. I'm concerned that he's reportedly staying at Bama through the playoff- where is his commitment to his new school? I'm concerned about his ability to put together a staff- I don't want to see more crap offense. I'm concerned that he hasn't been a head coach before. All this will get me, and have gotten me, absolutely crapped on all around the board.

I’m going to ask a question to everyone. I know we’re angry and very disappointed this am. What will Pruitt have to say or do between now and NSD for you to give him a chance. I’ll go first.

-he must have some VFLs on staff. Non negotiable.
-he must hire an elite OC. No BSiA crap which was really a buddy system. I want the best. Ark OC DOES NOT fit that mold.
-he must commit to hating bama. Publicly.
-he must keep Mays and flip a highly ranked Bama recruit

Do all of that, and I’ll watch this fall and give him a chance to earn a date with me.

Great question!

Am very interested to know about the staff. Especially OC.

Recruiting is huge!

<sigh> Just for old times sake...

I will come back to this Gif when I need to return to my happy place in the future! :)

Now what am I going to do since the coaching search is over? It was more interesting/exciting than the season. Sad times.

At least my better half is happy it's over, says she might get her husband back.

I asked her how she figured. I'm not going to go look for him for her.

My head hurts now.

I gotta go back and listen to the Fulmer press conference when he was named AD. I thought he was going after someone with UT ties who knew how special this place was and would want to be here. I can't connect the dots this morning. My hope now is that he brings Tee in as his OC so he can become the head coach when Pruitt heads back to Bama when Saban retires.

I doubt we will see Dale Jones come here either. This is gonna set me back in therapy for at least 2 weeks :):)

Glad you guys made this thread. I'll be sure to stop by from time to time. Disappointed that we are getting a full blooded bammer this morning. But at the same time I am glad it is over. It's been extremely exhausting for weeks now.

Keep those chins up VN. And be nice to each other.

Hey, guys.

Just letting everyone know that I will be spending the next few months getting to know my Memphis Tigers. I plan on hanging around in this thread because of all the cool people here but as far as buying into this team goes, I am finished. I wish them well and hope that they find success. I will still casually follow them through this site and the bottom ticker on TV but the days of devoting my Fall Saturdays to their games are over. I'm not doing this simply because we didn't get Gruden. I am making this decision because of the total lack of commitment to winning by those in charge of running the show. They talk a good game and lead everyone on only to hand us the exact opposite.

I know, stfu, gtfo, and don't let the door hit you on the way out. That's okay. I understand but after 40 years of being a Vol fan and 10 years of feeling like they couldn't care less about competing for championships, I am done.

I think Low was flinging poo at the wall last night as it never would have been determined he would or would not coach in the bowl game while he was still negotiating.

Same thing with staff. I doubt he was on the phone at 11:00 PM last night calling folks to gauge interest. Only people up that late last night were d-bag trolls in the other thread and us fine folk.

Totally understand your sentiment. I feel much the same way except I'm waiting to see what the staff hires would be.

Somebody help me out. If Pruitt has as much potential as I'm hearing from some people how come he was still available? Search and saw his name was mentioned w/ USCe and MissSu but didn't see anything else.

Not hating on him I just don't understand. BVS is a muther.

That was my thinking as well, but ESPN reported last night that Tee wasn't likely to come back to be OC now. With a coach as young as Pruitt, it doens't make sense from his perspective and I understand his reluctance. I don't know if this is true but it was reported, tweets all over the twitter world about it.

VFL to hire: Jay Graham. Top recruiter in the country. I don’t care about Gillespie at this point.

Make no mistake this guy is a Bama guy thru and thru. We are merely a stepping stone and paycheck. He does not love Tennessee and my bet is he will not be humbled or find it an honor and privilege to lead our valued traditions like:

Reciting General Neyland’s Maxims
Leading the Team on the Vol Walk
Running Thru the T
Singing Rockytop
Touching the "I will give my all for Tennessee today" sign

This is a guy that bleeds crimson thru and thru. I do not like this hire.

Fulmer led us to believe that he was going to get a gut that loved UT. This isn't the guy.

may have been answered but what offense will we be running and what kinda defense

Not sure about offense. May depend on who his OC is. I could see pro-style or hybrid like Kiffin. Defense, I think he is a 3-4 guy. That doesn't mean he won't change to fit what personnel we currently have.
