Next gen console power (PS5 and Xbox Series X)

Trying to find a X for my son.

Waited online for 8pm walmart black Friday sale.

Hit add to kart right at 8 when it went live and got an error and then was told it was sold out.

If anybody sees or hears of any place to get one on middle tn or online let me know.

Thanks.

Just scored one at Walmart’s 9pm release. Got confirmation email but we’ll see. They only had pick up in store option as well this time which says 3-7 days.

Shocker you got one. I had the screen up and got an error within 3 seconds

I was shocked too. I kept hitting add to cart for about 2-3 minutes before it finally took it. It gave me the Oh DEER! When I tried to checkout initially. I clicked on the services tab then clicked to go back to the cart and it was there and let me checkout. Wouldn’t do home delivery only deliver to store.

Had a Walmart page for XBX and Walmart page for PS5 pulled up at exactly 9 pm. Refreshed both continually. Clicked Added to Cart, got "out of stock." refreshed more, Clicked Added to Cart, and FINALLY got one in my cart, only for it to not accept payment and tell me it was out of stock. I'm sorry, but once something is in your cart, I feel like it's yours. Ugh. So mad.

Been an Xbox guy since the 360 days but I’m really thinking about switching over to PlayStation once one comes available, what y’all think?

When the dust settles they're both going to be comparable. I've always been a fan of the XBOX controller, but I now think PS5 has an equal or maybe even superior controller, so even that's a wash now. I would Google the exclusive titles for each and see what appeals to you the most. If you're a huge fan of Bethesda/ZeniMax titles you may want to see how their partnership with Microsoft pans out. Honestly I don't think those games will be Microsoft exclusives, but I do think you'll have access to their entire catalog by way of GamePass at some point and new titles will be included in your subscription.

5600X, new NVMe SSD, and MoBo just arrived. RAM should be at my doorstep by the time I come home from work tomorrow. You all know what I'll be doing tomorrow night :).

Did you get your 3080?

Not yet. Newegg has changed their rules on their combos now to where you can't return the items unless you returning everything. So I'm back to just waiting until I hear about a drop on Amazon or somewhere with the ASUS TUF 3080. That's the only one I want.

Personally I think PS5 is the better buy right now, simply because they do have a few exclusive launch games worth playing like Miles Morales, Demon's Souls, Astrobot, The Pathless, and Sackboy A Big Adventure (of course your mileage may vary depending on what you're into playing). However in a year or two when all of these developers that MS has purchased finally starts releasing what they are working on, I'm sure the XSX will be a console worth owning. Multiplat games are kind of a wash as they pretty much look and run identical on both consoles.

Yeah, I sent back my combo items a few days ago. I think anyone who purchased their combos before that stipulation went into effect could still return them.

I may have to build a new PC from scratch myself. I have a 650w EVGA G1 PSU that is borderline not enough for my 3080. It draws a full 320w under full load, which should be enough based on PSU calculators (says my system draws around 550w), but my PSU is actually relatively low-tier. I can undervolt and be fine, but RTX titles (Quake 2 RTX in particular) still max out the power draw and have caused a few crashes.

Could just swap out the PSU with a new one, of course, but that's a pain in the ass. If I'm gonna do that I might as well do it on a new rig, lol.

For those interested Best Buy is suppose to have a restock tomorrow sometime after 9am ET.

The Best Buy drop was an awful cluster f***. Luckily Walmart had another drop today and was dropping stock every 10 minutes up until 3:40. I jumped in at 3:15 and missed the the 3:20 drop but got one at 3:30. Says should be received by Jan 8. 😬 Glad I already got mine and this one is for someone else.

I'm sure you know this, but definitely need at least a 750W PSU. I have an 850W Gold so I'm good. I have another buddy in the same situation as you are with his 650W PSU except he doesn't have a 3080 yet.

I also have a desire to get a new case, but that's definitely on the back burner right now. I want the Phanteks p500a non-RGB.

Also, UPS gave my RAM to the USPS yesterday at 1:38 PM but the USPS website still says that they are waiting to receive it. I hope it's not lost because I was really hoping to have it today. Dangit, UPS...if you'd have just kept it I'd have it this evening!!!! *Shakes fist*

The PSU thing is iffy because some people are getting away with 650w, particularly the top-tier ones. Apparently the issue is that the 3000 series has occasional spikes in power that go well beyond the ~300w-320w max draw. I can undervolt and play non-RTX games all day with no issue, but as soon as ray tracing is enabled, there's a chance I'll get a micro spike to like 500w power draw, which is enough to cause a crash.

When I built my PC in 2017 even 650w was seen as being future proof and 850w or above would have been crazy overkill, now it's like minimum requirement for these beastly GPUs to have enough juice for the spikes in power draw in RTX titles.

Edit: Annnnd I just bought this: Super Flower Leadex III 850W 80+ Gold, 10 Years Warranty, Three-Way ECO Mode Fanless, Silent & Cooling Mode, FDB Fan, Full Modular Power Supply, Dual Over Power Protection, SF-850F14HG - Newegg.com

Lol welcome to the 850 club! Yeah the drivers still need to be fine tuned for the 3000 series so we don't have those massive spikes. They really are beastly GPU's. Can't wait to find that ASUS TUF 3080 that keeps alluding me.

Good luck on getting that 3080. Crazy that they are still selling out instantly. Zen CPUs are also selling out instantly when they come in stock.

I actually stabilized my 3080 by power limiting it to 85%. The undervolting thing wasn't 100% stable but power limiting it is...and I legitimately haven't noticed any performance loss. Maybe 2-5 FPS or something. These cards are odd in that the clock speed seems to barely matter. Mine tops out at like 1650 mhz with that power limit on and still just beasts through games. People are also noticing minimal performance increases when overclocking them.

I think I'm going to sit on that new PSU and use it when I finally build a new system, which will probably be spring or summer (may wait for DDR5 RAM to become available).

This is why I have only wanted the TUF instead of the EVGA FTW ever since these came out. There is just no reason to performance-wise which is the biggest reason to buy one of these cards.

Gonna wait for DDR5? That's gonna be pretty expensive when it first comes out. Looking forward to seeing what kind of performance it brings to games.
