Why not Rob Ryan? He is one of the most respected defensive coaches in football. He has an attitude that I think would fit well with college players and probably be a great recruiter as well. He coached at Tennessee St in the early 90's so I dont think he would have a problem living in this part of the country. I dont really hear of him lobbying for HC positions so maybe he would consider it for the right amount of money. It will probably never happen but you never know unless you offer. I'm just throwing out a big name that could be a possibility and not an impossibility.
Not saying Rob is the greatest defensive coach ever but he has accomplished more than Kiffin.
I'll just end the Rob Ryan theory here...he wants a head coaching position at the pro level....it's been quoted and as far as him being a better defensive coordinator than Kiffin I can show you stats where that is all junk. See Rob Ryan's past season with the Cowboys.
Monte Kiffin is one of the greatest DC's of his time. Rob Ryan's only claim to fame is his brother and daddy. His previous DC stops have been Cleveland and Oakland. I don't think he has ever coached a winning team since he left the college ranks in the late 1990's.
It's almost like the idiots manning this thread don't realize that Chavis presided over the backslide that saw us devolve to almost no ability to stop the run. Never mind that he doesn't recruit.
UT has 3 openings and their are a lot of quality coaches who are available.
We will be fine. We have a lot to offer and Hart will make sure Dooley has the support he needs to get who he wants.
Expect Dooley to take a run at Steele, Smart, Bumpas, Diaz.
LT has a legit shot at being named DC.
Expect some NFL guys who recently have been let go to get a call or two.
Also, Dooley will look to fill one position with an "elite" recruiter.
