I love it that we're getting Monte K--but let's not fool ourselves into thinking that a pro coach will turn us into a defensive superpower. You will be disappointed. First, Chavis is/was a pretty damn good coach--we've had two great defenses in the last four or so years--2005, in particular. Second, talent does play a LARGE role, and so does having coaches who can develop and relate to college kids. Coaching veteran, 25-30 year old NFL players is far different than coaching 18-20 year olds who can be immature and not the brightest candles, to say the least. Look at Weis at ND--won four Super Bowls as OC for the NE Pats, supposed to be an offensive guru/genius. He's close to getting sacked after four years--and the nd offense was mediocre AT BEST this year. They didn't get a first down against So. Cal //until the third quarter//!!! And yea, unless we find another couple of DTs soon, our defense could struggle next year under Monte unless he's got a couple of brilliant fixes up his sleeve.
