New York City

Socialism is a term that rarely gets used properly. Republicans tend to mean communist when they say it. Democrats tend to mean social safety net when they say it.

What it really means is government controlling the means of production, like public education K-12, and that's almost never what people mean when they say it, but both parties endorse public education.

When Mamdani talks about city-owned grocery stores, that's regular socialism.

Yes and also when he says I'm going to pay for free stuff for some by taxing the rich because of income inequality - that qualifies too.

I'm sure there will be places for the rich that can afford to shop is establishments that can afford his new corporate taxes...... and of course the black market people bootlegging in their trunks.
Yeah Saks is going to clean up selling mac and cheese.
Don't forget the existing grocery stores which will continue business as usual.

I think it's similar to how we modify our terms. Like classic liberal, neo con, etc. You described classic socialism. Some posters get out of sorts when I say America is democratic-socialist. It may be a very light version but that's the way we are governed.

Who knew “of the people, by the people, for the people “ wasn’t a democratic socialist concept?

Im basing my position on the fact my grandfather owned a small grocery store in the city of knoxville.
It was hard work, and he shared that he’d have been much more financially successful had he opened a different kind of business but grocery was what he knew.
If Zohan was only going to open some city stores that would be one thing, but his additional taxes and regulations he’ll be enacting will drive closures.
Sure Amazon could make it work, but the typical city grocer will find it much easier to “switch teams” whether that’ll be different products or different location

Will they be the only grocery stores in town or will the proletariat be allowed to trade elsewhere, Commisar?
NYC was already losing grocery stores. Now you throw in competition than will operate at below costs, because of tax money, that is just going to drive out more stores.

some areas it will be the only choice.

No definitely, I'm sure every negative wet dream will come true and there won't be any private grocery stores left in NYC 2 years from now. We can bet on that too
food deserts aren't an impossibility in NYC. I believe that is the problem he is trying to fix. so on the face of it some areas/neighborhoods will face the problem of no private stores. certainly won't be city wide. but you are fooling yourself if this doesn't negatively impact the remaining private stores.

It sounds nice but how is he going to get the money to operate these grocery stores?

What exactly did he say that was inaccurate?

It’s clearly hyperbolic scare tactic nonsense across the board, and for you to call people anti semitic for legitimate criticisms on the political actions of the state of Israel while completely ignoring this blatant Islamophobia is telling and discrediting to whatever argument you try to make.

The is my biggest issue with this loser and those like him. He cries about the distribution of wealth, but has never done anything to create any wealth.

Instead he’s mooched off his wealthy parents for 3 decades. Basically a younger Bernie

He’s a disaster as a public servant. Much like the sitting Congressman who wants him deported.

A lot of times there is a significant difference between what a politician proposes and what the actual implementation is. I could see a scenario where the government doesn't own the stores out right, but goes into Partnerships with current or future grocery store owners. Offering special allowances and waivers as long as they operate in an undeserved area with a limited profit margin.

The specifics I listed are more concept than actual so I could provide some context.

Aside from the inaccuracies, I am surprised the tweet is so disgusting to some. Many Rs and conservatives, both public and private, are called similar.
It doesn't justify anything. Political discourse needs a lobotomy. But this is par for the course wrt politics.

Sending a letter to the AG to have a U.S. citizen's citizenship taken away over politics is not par for the course IMO

That’s like saying a doctor can’t diagnose or treat obesity unless they’ve been obese themselves.
