New SEC team

11 ways?

The schedules would be unbalanced and considering how Bama's crying about bye weeks I can just imagine the ish storm only having 11 teams would bring about.

No. Not 11 ways. He was saying that if Arkansas left, we should just boot Vandy in order to go to 10. I don't see it happening. You can't have the SEC championship game if there are only 10 teams, and the conference likes the extra money.

Vandy to Big Ten. Fits their academics.

Virginia Tech to SEC East. Solidifies SEC as best conference for eternity. Creates huge border state rivalry.

Don't care if it adds another tough game to the schedule, I want the fun and challenge of a team like Tech in the SEC.

Then again, Tech might end up like Vandy if thrown into the mix.

Va Tech would be a terrible add. Their program has peaked, and once Beamer is gone they'll be back to the mid-major type program they were before him. They bring absolutely nothing to the table.

If I were running things, I'd ditch Vanderbilt, and replace their spot in the east with Virginia. Virginia already brings in more money than Va Tech despite sucking for the past years. They've got better facilities, closer to VA recruits, and much more potential as a program. They've also got much better sports across the board than Va Tech. Virginia's new basketball arena is one of the nicest I've seen. And since they would be replacing Vandy, their big rival in the west would be Ole Miss, which would be ideal given the similarities of the two places. The only thing that's held Virginia back is an incompetent athletic director, that happens to hire incompetent coaches.

If not Virginia, West Virginia would be my second choice... Good football and basketball. Winningest football program in the country that does not have a national title. Huge fan base, and opens SEC up to northern markets. Lots of potential as a program.

Clemson would be third. They are the most SEC-like program in the ACC, and would be a good fit, and brings decent basketball as well. My guess is there's no way Georgia or South Carolina would let this happen though... unless politics get involved like they did in Virginia, when they forced the ACC to take Va Tech instead of Pitt or Syracuse like they wanted.

FSU would also be a possibility, but I don't see Florida allowing that to happen. I guess there are a lot of other programs out there that bring more to the table than Vandy does, but Virginia, West Virginia, Clemson and FSU would be my top four.

i dont know abou their track and basketball programs, but isnt their baseball team pretty good?

Arkansas has the best track & field/cross country programs in the country. They have gone down a little since their Hall of Fame coach left a couple years ago, but if you want to see Arkansas' benefit to SEC athletics just search their National Championships in those sports.

And yeah they are good in baseball year in and year out.

ok....so why would Duke leave the ACC to come to the SEC? They can get killed in football where they are.

Nobody said to take Duke. Just saying you can be good at academics and at least try to act like you care about sports like Duke does. Vandy's gym floor and bench set up is an embarrassment to the conference and to themselves. Not to mention it is a homecourt advantage.

So who would you suggest?

If it was GT or Clemson, how would the SEC re-align the divisions since both would be considered in the "East" and the departing team (Arkansas) was in the West? I guess Vandy could go over to the West division, but I'd hate to see our yearly dominance of them go away.

I was getting on you, I was just filling you in... no ill will

My dad is a huge Arkansas fan and we had season tickets growing up and he always tried to convert me, so I know a lot about their school, athletics, etc.

TCU in the SEC would be interesting to see how much they would pull recruits from Texas. ND has already turned down the Big 10 and Missouri has already hinted that they would be interested in the Big 10.

TCU seems like a logical Big 12 pickup in football, but no way their program really fits in the conference. They are a small school with weak programs outside of football, they have a small alumni base, and do not travel terribly well.

The Big 12 could definitely make a push for Arkansas, and they may listen. I think they feel under appreciated in the SEC.

Any other team besides WVU would be hard to pull out of the Big East because of what they would lose in basketball.

I say we add Maryville College. It is a logical fit location wise and has gone 1-26 against UT in their history which is more than we can say for Kentucky the last 25 years and matches Vandy's one win. It has high academic standards and as long football tradition as Tennessee, actually it was Tennessee’s first win 25-0. The basketball teams dominate their current conference and CBP actually interviewed their head coach for an assistant's job a few years back. The other sports are competitive so it only makes logical sense.

If you actually believe I mean this you really have to read into sarcasm. The facts are true though. I would actually vote for adding Louisville. Pretty good football and strong in hoops and baseball

GA Tech makes the most sense. Currently pretty good at the big 3 in sports. keeps everything this side of the mississippi and mason dixon

Huge fan base? West Virginia?
