New rule changes announced

Personally, I don’t think so. Apparently it was an unwritten form of a fair catch before. Shane Beamer tried to play in the gray area in last year’s Citrus Bowl. Led to some words from Illinois’ Bret Bielema.
The bigger issue and need for the rule is like what happened to us at Bama in 2023 on our first possession of the second half. A dude nowhere near the ball puts his hand out and we get the ball at our own 4 because of it. Codifying it now instead of leaving it up to interpretation like it was then should be good for everyone. The well coached teams shouldn’t have any issue with this rule.

Just means a defensive player needs to remember to stay on the ground after the play to allow substitutions and reset the D without penalty.
Would our hurry up offense help any? If we spot the ball quickly after each play, is it harder for the defense to time ‘staying on the ground’? What if players stay on the ground but the refs don’t see them until the ball is spotted? If we snap they ball and they are still laying on the ground they could risk looking like a fool and giving up a big play.

That 2023 game was the most blatant example of refs changing the tone of the game I have ever seen. That was disgraceful and every single one of the refs should have been fired. Saban should also get a slap in the face for that blatant cheating.

That will certainly put a stop to it. Kiffin will be crying in his pillow tonight. I expect some kind of hissy fit and some lame, bizarre justification for why this new rule will be a problem.
Ole Miss should also have to forfeit the 2021 game and remove that win from the record books. That game deserves an asterisk.

I’m sensing a theme here

Reasonable people just made a very good rule to control it. Your argument by intimidation is sad and pathetic. And wrong.
Wait….. what?

First using the term reasonable people has nothing to do with my point.

Also, not sure you understood my post. What are you talking about by saying “intimidation”? I’m not advocating intimidating anyone. I was referring when they would simulate firing guns into the air before kickoff coverage and get hyped up.

Maybe you don’t watch enough that you know what I’m talking about?

While I disagree, I've seen penalties for guys pretending to lift their leg to pee like a dog or I think a crotch grab a la Michael Jackson.

I get not wanting violent imagery but is the gator chomp or tomahawk chop next?

C'mon, NCAA, lighten up.
Seriously. And I’m not sure it necessarily falls under the category of “violent imagery”. That might be a slight stretch.

Wait what? Your appeal to “reasonable people” has everything to do with your post. It is a debate tactic that I identified correctly. You did not clarify shooting in the air but even I you had that’s also considered an intimidation, a threat and is also illegal in many places. There are federal laws regarding such behavior as well. You should have remained silent.

This one seems like it's gonna get messy.
Guess I don’t understand this one! Forming a T?

For sure they need to properly enforce the fair catch rule as written the last book I saw, which requires the player to raise his hand above his head and wave his arm back and forth MORE THAN ONCE, I believe the language was, last second mini parade wave not compliant and penalty worthy. Wait too late and you better let it hit the ground. EASILY REVIEWABLE.

Probably Because our guys are coached to get the ball to the official as fast as possible after each play. But the refs try to spot the ball for play pretty quickly most of the time. I think this rule is good but will cause some heart burn. Many players get up after a play only to realize they are hurt…we could see some teams penalized for legitimate injuries but people will adjust - they’ll learn to stay on the ground if they are hurting…better to come out for one play then to get penalized.

I must have missed something, much like you did in my first post. Clearly you did not understand them shooting into the air not intimidating people but antics to excite their own team and drive team energy lol. You look so silly in all this. I think you just “hoped” I’d stayed silent. Carry on……

Or maybe grow up and realize the whole world is not an overly sensitive as you wish it was. Good night Karen.
