Maurer certainly looked pretty ready out there Saturday when he got in.For those digital warriors out there who don’t understand the actual schedule and challenges Tennessee has had please read
1. Due to COVID, NO backup QB has been developed due to MANDATED quarantine from contact tracing. Blame Trump, Blame Biden, Blame China, Blame whoever. You can’t train a backup in 4 practices.
2. Our QB issue is about AWARENESS and the offense. Our mistakes are due to bad decision making. A QB questioning himself.
3. Chaneys offense DEPENDS on a QB who can AUDIBLE and make MULTIPLE reads. Maybe a young gun can do this, however, you need PRACTICE to have a playbook deeper than your wristband.
I GUARANTEE QB change happening for Arkansas UNLESS COVID/HEALTH issues.

Exactly my point. With a good to really good QB, we could compete with the best teamsWho was the qb on that Swinney team?
I agree on D. Very disappointed by the discipline of this D considering that is what Pruitt should be known for. 3 years in and guys routinely look confused about assignments pre-snap.
If HB is the hero you believe him to be....then he should have been able to in and play....he got 10 snaps and was so bad CJP a poor coach decided not to invest more time....Harrison Bailey DID NOT PRACTICE in preseason due to COVID.
Tennessee football: Harrison Bailey has not practiced in preseason
After preseason, each week is spent installing team specific plans and strategies for week to week games.
So you have a choice each week - reteach the foundation and punt on a weekly game plan or try to add a few reps here and there and push the kids to catch up.
An offweek gives you a chance to reinstall foundations and rep them.
Why not Maurer? Maurer has been battling a hamstring this year and a victim of contact tracing. Hamstring didn’t heal until recently. Then you have to ask, do you get the flashes or Maurer we’ve seen or Kentucky Maurer?
JT Shrout...I suspect what we saw is how he practices. Sideways at best decision to replace.
Bailey is the show pony.
Offweeks are when changes are installed. Flame on
CFB is about talent. Saban and Dabo dont know more about football than other people, they just walk on the field with superior talent.
Pruiit hasnt really done a great job of recruiting and for that reason he walks on the field with average talent and gets his doors blown off.

When Manning was here, of course he spread it around to 8-9 guys every week. Everyone, including the NFL, thought we had great WRs. No one but Price could make it at the next level because they weren't all that great, but they sure looked great because of ManningI agree with that. Having a NFL talent at qb rearranges the entire dynamic of a college team.
What?OL, WRs, RBs, DBs. That you believe we don't have good talent is indicative of an uninformed fan
I'm just stating we have lots of talent in those areas, but they're not being coached up at all. There were two instances yesterday on long pass plays where our DBs were there but took terrible angles. Both of them at worst should have been broken up easily. That's not an issue as to lack of talent as it is to coachingWhat?
Our running backs are as average as I can remember. Wide receivers outside Palmer are either true freshmen or below average. Alontae and Bryce are decent enough (although I would argue they have improved not a bit since stepping on campus) but the rest of the DBs aren’t good.

Gray has great hands. He might have been switched to WR on some of our teams when we had stud RBs. We've got great young receivers. All the freshman can play, we just can't get them the ball enoughI guess. We really slacked in the WR recruiting the first two classes and RB recruiting has been awful. Chandler would be third string at best on any decent Tennessee team and Gray would primarily be a return man and gadget guy.
The freshmen I think will be good. You can’t field three true freshmen wide receivers at one. You have to have a few people out there that know where everyone is supposed to go.Gray has great hands. We played the 2nd best offense in the country. Most NFL teams could not stop the Bama offense this year. We need to improve on D, no doubt. But, to say would have no chance to stop anyone is just not true.A QB change may very well be coming, but there are so many more issues on this team to worry about. The way our defense played today we have no chance to stop anyone.
BS. Every NFL team, even the worst, would beat their asses all over the field on both sides of the ball. My goodnessWe played the 2nd best offense in the country.
