According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, the NFL is going to dramatically change how the Pro Bowl is done this season.
"NFL eliminated traditional AFC-NFC Pro Bowl matchup; will be replaced with Pro-Bowl fantasy-like draft, per ESPN sources," he tweeted. "Now players will be assigned to teams through the Pro Bowl Draft (really). Jerry Rice and Deion Sanders will be draft captains. ... No more kickoffs in Pro Bowl. Rosters will consist of 43 players per squad. Game will be played Jan 26 in Honolulu."
The NHL has been using the fantasy-draft approach for a while now, but it's hard to believe that this will resuscitate the Pro Bowl, which has seemingly been on life support for years. Injuries are simply to prevalent in football to convince players to play competitively in what essentially amounts to a meaningless pickup game.
