New Pitching Coach Candidates

Coaching pitchers seems like one of those specialties where age and experience--having watched, evaluated, and successfully communicated with a large number and wide variety of athletes over many years--is a huge factor.

Having successfully communicated with a wide variety of lefties over many years probably qualifies a coach for
a Psychiatric Hall of Fame nomination.

Maybe we should just hire the Wake Forest Pitching Lab. It only cost like a million dollars. They’ve won every game and natty since building it.

Right?

Right?

Bueller?
That melt down so so annoying. My ignore list was stuffed afterward. Like a Thanksgiving dinner a day for weeks. 😂

Haha! Different breed. Got one on my son's 11U team. Great player and just as great of a headcase. Smacks himself in the head on the mound. He gives me Doyle vibes. 😆 🤣 😂

Kirby Connell. I know, he's not really qualified because he lacks the experience. But I love the guy and think he has a bright future in the sport.
Why isn’t he qualified? What even makes a good pitching coach? There are some basic fundamentals pitchers learn in HS. Some drills with weighted balls. Some stretches everyone does. Nolan Ryan was great because he was Nolan Ryan, not because he had some pitching guru as his coach. Pitching coach seems like an overrated position to me.

I'd definitely prefer an older veteran coach that has developed multiple MLB pitchers on his resume.

Do you think Elander would inquire with Frank for his opinion and recommendations?

Frank was one of the GOATs of college pitching coaches. Five first round draft picks over a six-year period is insane.
I'd add they need to be salty and able to stare lasers through the umpires. I want to hear him cursing the umps for every bad call.

Usually, we want to see how coaches do as a (hitting or pitching coach) at a lower level before they jump into a top 10 job like Frank had here.
I have no doubt KC can be successful.

I know nothing about pitching coaches, but my guess is they aren’t teaching them how to pitch, but would be teaching specific techniques to improve their mechanics and identifying a pitcher’s best pitches he throws and being able to fine tune his go to pitches. Also teaching game strategies/philosophies they probably weren’t exposed to at a lower level of baseball. If the coach was a pitcher himself, I think it adds a lot of experience credibility to gain a player’s trust and confidence. Coach can kinda get inside his head easier if needed.

Hoped that @JustDave45 would have acknowledged your original idea, but alas…

Great topic with supporting media links! 😉🤙🏼🧡

I love him too, but unlessCFA gives his blessing, i’d say allow him to season a little… like gumbo. Gotta let the andouille simmer a couple of hours before adding the fresh seafood. 😉🤙🏼

I feel like an uninformed voter here. I do recall he has extreme political views but can’t for the life of me remember if left or right.

F it. Does his college pitching coaching resume reflect numerous first round MLB picks? Otherwise, not interested in the controversy. Fails the vette.
who are we realistically going to get that has that resume? so, imo, hire Curt who has a WS ring and knows what it takes to do the job, mentally and physically.

EDIT: if Frank wants to come back....I change my answer lol

I feel so dirty when i submit my talent to an ai search to answer an inquiry or challenge. I would guess there are close to a dozen candidates with more than two top three round pitchers on their resume. Gauntlet thrown:

the question is, would they want to come to TN? I hope so, I am all for a proven P coach, no matter who it is. I just want to win...

This is the way.
Is he a firebrand a little more in the mold of a Frank/TV? Anyone know his personality traits?

I personally feel like an injection of intensity could be infused to our staff to the benefit of our squad.

I agree on the need for our lead coaches to show some emotion when the situation calls for it.
