it's the actual process of the hire or anything like for me, as much as it is the fact that the powers that be, allowed this circus to get started in the first place.

No matter how long it's been announced about Hart retiring nothing was going to happen with an AD hire untill Davenport got here.

I don't know much about this guy, but just based on credentials alone he seems like a great candidate. If he is interested in us, we should at the very least interview him

I lay this debacle on the president. Why, for example, is the Chancellor supposed to be the final word on a new AD. That's my understanding. Why not the president? So Cheek, our former chancellor, along with the UT president, decide they don't want to extend Hart's contract. Fine, whatever: I think Hart has done a good job, myself. After making this decision, Cheek himself leaves or retires--and then we are told that the new chancellor must weigh in or approve a new AD, which is a bit of a problem because the university is months in finding a replacement for Cheek. And meantime a belated search committee is formed, including Manning, and nobody really seems to know what the f--k they are doing. It's been embarrassing.

As I have stated before the Chancellor is the AD's Boss. It makes no sense to name someone before the Chancellor is on Board. To do so otherwise would be a very dumb business decision.

If they had waited until Hart retired, but started interviewing and had a candidate ready to announce. The complaint on here would be; WT Flagnon, why didn't they take their time and interview more people, so they could make a better decision.

that's the point. so why announce his retirement 9 months ago, knowing you still have to replace a chancellor too?

all it's done is given credence to the lame duck moniker.

they should have kept their mouths shut about Hart until after BD was hired. and none of this is an issue.

they would have had the freedom to be inept in private, behind closed doors.:p

i get that, and i don't necessarily disagree with the notion that it would be better.

but it's not, nor should it be, THE single most important factor in making this hire. like i said, it's very fortunate that we have a guy, apparently, that literally checks all of the boxes. but if Blackburn wasn't there, say he's off the table, not an option....are we gonna pass on a guy like Morrison simply because he's not a TN guy? he's qualified too. dare i say more than Fulmer.

the only reason that's getting so much play is because Blackburn fits, he is a TN guy, and it would make a lot of sense for a lot of reasons.

Everybody who wants a Vol as AD should remember that Holly is VFL - how is that working out?

I want a Vol if they are qualified. If the most qualified is Morrison, then let's roll.

The timing on Morrison is interesting since he resigned out of the blue and said he wants to go back to college athletics. He ran the business end of the Panthers other than the salary cap. Basically no one in Charlotte ever hears from him.

According to this article he is very visible and will be really missed. Sounds like a great candidate for UT AD. Has personality.

well Bama Dave's retiring or being fired has been handled poorly,it should have been kept quiet until the new chancellor was in place and then a search for a new AD announced,but we all know how good hindsight is,it's all ways perfect :)

Looks like a good candidate...hope they get him in the interview pool...he may end up being strong. He certainly has credentials. For any hire, even if you've got a favored candidate, it's preferred to have a deep and talented interview pool so you can experience some diversity of thought, which differs from current UT scope...rather than the bird bath pool we have now...though I do also think either Fulmer or Blackburn would be good.

At the end of the day, as someone posted, it's about the whole of UT having a consistent and strong plan, where there has been a void. Hope the new chancellor can bring strength, support and stability, which, in turn will make everything below her better.
