So, based entirely on a website who list the offers that the recruits claim to have, you create your conjecture and assert that the majority of offers are not committable? You're just as fos as you were when you were posting as Leb.

If you have a more accurate list of those offered I'd appreciate seeing it. I could scratch apparently about 100 or so names off the list I'm kind of keeping an eye on.

One minute you say do not trust the offers a recruit "claims" to get, then you throw out UT gives out all these offers ... So which is it, these kids receive the offers or not?

If you don't like a particular commitment, say so and be on your way..

While I'm at it.. Just exactly how accurate are star rankings with money involved now days? Something to think on..

I think the problem with the star rankings is that many fans view them as meaning the same thing, universally. This isn't true. Each star ranking means something different for each recruiting service and how the rankings are awarded are also based on different elements.

My point I was getting at is offers aren't what they use to be. An offer use to mean something. They just don't mean much now and in large part are garbage. If a coach extends an offer but you can't commit to it and secure a spot in the class THAT DAY, what's it an offer for? I'll tell you. Nothing. Its absolutely meaningless. Its a coach giving you pat on the back. If a coach gives an offer, let's you commit, then later takes it away to give to a higher rated kid, what's that "offer" worth? Nothing.

Unfortunately we've made an offer to play college football worth little now a day's.

For comparison sake, here's the "offers" shown extended in other Tennessee classes.

2012-191
2011-149
2010-86
2009-132
2008-103
2007-56
2006-101

Its widely the consensus this staff is excellent at evaluation. Why do we need to offer 300-400 kids to get 20-25 SEC guys? It seems other staffs didn't need to.

A Tennessee offer needs to have some value. Needs to mean something.

You just keep on with this garbage. If you truly think there are upwards of 400 offers out there, then you are even more clueless than you appear to be at first glance.

Maybe 400+/- kids have been evaluated and received interest from the school. The number of offers extended may even be as high as 270+, but to keep spewing an offer number close to 400 is non-sense.

This is my issue with all this, some kids do not camp like others do, so no exposure. Some kids do not have adequate coaching in high school, but have the intangibles. Some kids are really good but are so caught up in their own hype they don't live up to their high rankings. So many dynamics involved. A difference in a 3* to a 4* might be visiting more camps or having a cough teach fundamentals that the HS coach failed to do.. More to this than some guys behind keyboards ranking a kid based off a little bit of Hudl film.

Case in point, Bama offers a 4* he gets bumped up, the magical offer made him better.. Right?

Its all subjective, rankings and offers.. Coaches evaluation is about all we have to go on, trust the coaches or don't..

More less my point. Offer lists mean little in reality as they can't be validated.

Also I don't believe offers are in writing. Not until closer to NSD when "offer" sheets go out and alot of recruits usually post pics of those on Twitter.

Doesn't this contridict what you are saying about UT offers?

You think that Alabama will lament our top 15 class over their #1 class? Do you really think this?

Well, not on NSD but 3-4 years down the road you have no way of knowing how these guys will pan out. They may very well pan out to look like the number 1 most talented class or the may not.

The number 1 class will give you a better chance of having the most talent but it's not always a given. If you buy 2 lottery tickets you have twice the chance of winning, but how does that actually work out usually?

Bama has the number 1 class, the number 1 coach, the number 1 s&c coach, that's why they usually pan out as the best team. Not just the class they sign.

A couple years down the road who knows if Saban will still be there? May be a new coach that wastes all that talent and wishes they had UT's class. Prob not but you never know.

How so?

My point is we toss out too many garbage offers today. Coaches signing 20-25 while offering 100-150 kids vs offering 300-400 to sign the same 20-25 seems to speak to my point.

How do you know we tossed out all those offers, you said yourself that recruits "claim" to get them? Help me understand..

I suppose it could be coincidence the huge offer numbers are the recruits lying about having one and it somehow coincides with the New staff coming in.

I in no way question the TN offers kids claim. The last few years they have been tossing them out like candy. Of course I can't be sure how other programs handle the way they do things. I just don't follow other schools as closely.

Could it also be that the increase in claimed offers also coincides with the rise of social media and recruiting services in general? More exposure for kids allows them to talk themselves up and many claim offers that do not exist. Some of this is done in vain and some is done in hopes of attracting more or better offers.

The kids, their coaches, and their families know that college coaches cannot comment on specific recruits or their offer status. You'd be extremely naive to believe many recruits do not claim fake offers.

I grew up not far from there until I joined the Army. Just got 15 pounds of Kielbasa from Stanley's on Stickney. Different part of town but it will make for a happy Polock for awhile in FL.

Toledo? I have a lot of family there. I definitely know about the glass bowl. Didn't Chuck Webb play for a state championship there? Spent most my summers in Toledo too. My Mom graduated from Central Catholic and my Dad went to Waite. Oddly enough they met years later in Tucson Arizona.

It was the city championship and Webb destroyed those boys. I was on the sidelines couldn't believe how big and fast he was. One of the perks of having a father in law enforcement was that all the games he worked I got in for free and had the run of the stadiums pretty much. from there. Lived mostly on the East Side until HS. Mom went to Rogers and Sister went to Waite. Two cousins went to Central. Just got some real Kielbasa from there Thursday. Makes for a happy Polock.

Murphy IS NOT a 4* recruit. The only service that people should be using is 247 Sports to get their grades: Jordan Murphy, Hattiesburg, Wide Receiver

I'm not trying to tell people what to do but it's been proven 247 Sports should be the ONLY recruiting service we all should use.

The thread title really needs to be changed to reflect this too. It should read 3* instead of 4*. Thanks!

So you're not telling us what to do.........all while telling us what we should do.

It is common knowledge for VOLS we use the rating service with highest grade for other schools we use lowest. Duh :banghead2:

It is also common knowledge we use 247 Sports composite to decide on the player's final star recruit status. Not Rivals or Scout. It's 247 Sports period!
