New coach better be better than Leach

Fulmer may stop the bleeding, but I'm prepared to be underwhelmed by his choice of coaches, it may not be pretty:popcorn:

Some of $h*+ y’all are saying about Tee Martin is flat out disrespectful. Oh he’s not ready, he doesn’t have any experience, the job is too big for him, we need an experienced head coach. The crazy thing is there is a head coach at Georgia in his second season ever as a head coach that’s in the sec championship game. Y’all need to relax, with the right staff tee would do just fine. Please tell me what conference championship leach ever won? From what I see, his best finish at WSU is second or third in his division, he’s Butch Jones with a better offense and personality

Tee has 2 years experience as an OC. If we fire Tee martin because he wasnt ready not even peyton will be able to save us after that.

Tee Martin will be an unmitigated disaster for both parties atm. Right now this is not a situation in which Tee is likely to succeed.

I would really like Tee in 3-5 years as HC tho. Let him stay at USC, take a mid-level HC job in a couple of years so he can wet his beak as an HC.

Get Les Miles it's a no brainer.

The top 4 teams currently all have HCs who didn't have a lot of Hc experience between them when they got hired where they are:
1: Clemson (Sweeney: 0)
2: Auburn (Malzhan: 1 at Arkansas St (also a bit of HS))
3: Oklahoma (Lincoln Riley: 0; Bob Stoops; 0)
4: Wisconsin (Paul Chryst: 2 at Pittsburgh)

He don’t fit their “type “

What proof is there that Leach could recruit worth a crap in the SEC? Cutcliffe is a brilliant offensive mind too, but I don’t see anyone screaming for Cut, who may be back in play now.

Leach is a great coach, and a great fit at a school like WA State where there isn’t a hotbed of talent and depth isn’t as much of a factor. The SEC is a whole different animal and Leach has no recruiting ties in the south except maybe that year or two he spent in Kentucky.

You got to be a smooth salesman to be successful in the south. You gotta he able to beat the Sabans, Mullens, Smarts, Malzahns, and even the Swinneys or Taggart (assuming he’s in at FSU) for the top talent to compete in the SEC.

Leach is a weird dude, though I’m a fan, and there is no guarantee his pirate lawyer schtick would work at all in Tennessee’s recruiting base. That can work when you’ve got nothing to lose like WA State or TTU, but it’s nowhere near proven to work down here.

We need to break tradition then. I'm a little skeptical of Leach because of the defense-minded SEC but he's got the qualities and potential. Read into his and Hal Mumee's approach to offense and am impressed. His record isn't that impressive but doing a lot with the calibre of players he got. Davenport may be considering his legal issues and foul lanquage....not fair. We need an innovated leader. We could be disappointed easily with a conservative Fulmer hire.

Don’t want Mumme anywhere near my program. That guy is a walking talking recruiting violation.

The only thing Peyton is saving is a warm seat on Haslam’s private jet.

There's all kinds of talent out there. It just goes to Oregon, Stanford and USC, all of which Leach's team beat this year by the way.

If we end up hiring someone worse than Leach I’m going to be pretty ticked.

Tee Martin is who Phillip Fulmer seems to be interested in. He really talked about someone who wants to be here and hire a coordinator is fine because he started as a coordinator. Ugh

That's enough. We have Phil back, we are on the tracks again. No more protesting.
We did our job, we were heard. Now enjoy it, we won, we are good to go.
The war is over, I know you prob have PTSD, but let it go brother. Phil has got this.

Leach as a recruiter would flat out kill it. Kids would be calling him to come run the Air Raid. We would be taking the speed right out of Florida and the toughness out of Louisiana.

Different league with different philosophy. You got to have the athletes in the SEC to compete with UGA, Bama, Auburn, Florida yearly.

As good as a coach leach is, he biggest knock/weakness is/has been recruiting. maybe that is by product of where he was at. but he has stated strategy over talent is his philosphy

I don’t buy that at all. How the he11 do you see Leach recruiting inner city kids? You ain’t competing in the SEC without them.

He fits Tennessee about like Bill Callahan fit Nebraska. Leach is a better coach, no doubt, but we go from Chaney to Butch to Leach?

Spurrier air raid was 17 years ago, and Leach throws more than Spurrier ever did.

How did Butch or Dooley relate to inner city kids? They are both squares to nth degree.

Leach has a system that will attract exciting players.

How many National championships and conference championships does Leach have ? I think they can come up with a comparable coach IMO .

That's not a good way of evaluating it. Pete Carroll did alright at USC without a prior championship on his record. Saban had only the one MAC title at Toledo before LSU. Butch Jones won 4 conference championships at CMU and Cincy. How did Butch's demonstrated history of winning conference championships work out? Were you pleased with the outcome?

I honestly believe Fulmer sabotage a decent hire for us own self gain. That is fine (I am sure he tells himself it was for the best), but if he hires a candidate worse than Leach he deserves to be fired.

Dooley didn’t. He screwed our recruiting. Butch was a used car salesman, and a slick one. For all his faults, Butch worked his @$$ off on the recruiting trail and made promises he had no intention of keeping. He is a solid recruiter, but lousy developer.

No guarantee Leach was coming, no more than Gundy, Brohm (who told us no, not some BS story that he was secretly signed til Bev refused demands).

Not sure I understand. Your title says that they had better be better than Leach but your post says you'll be ticked if they're worse than Leach.

I for one would still be very happy with Leach as he would ignite the fanbase like no one since, well Schiano...hahaha

With the talent level he would have access to at UT i sincerely think his offense could be outstanding

Of course, I could get on board with most anyone as long as they don't have some serious personal issues.

Serious Personal Issues = Leach.

tbf there was a very high probability that Leach was coming

Wazzu can't afford to give him a raise + his AD there abandoned him.

There were good reasons for someone like Gundy to not come. Literally can't think of a single one for Leach tho.

Mike Leach is way overrated as a HC! We've seen the results of his gimmicky Air Raid offense in the SEC. Kentucky's best season under Mumme was 7-5 and his overall record in 4 years was 20-26, and guess who was the OC under Mumme during three years of Mumme's four year tenure? That's right, Mike Leach!
