New 2018 Commit: The Nation's #1 Punter, Skyler DeLong

The logic must sound better coming from you? A cannon-legged punter who can get hang time and distance is worth their weight in gold. A few fans would get that, so congrats. Lot's of punters punt, not all flip field position in the most critical situations in a ball game.

I look at it differently. It tells me that Little Nicky thinks he will have to punt more now that Lane left. :dance2:

But Sarkisian? But...some dude from the Patriots staff?

Without Lane, plus Nicky being older than dirt / on deathbed, the Tide are definitely staring at a couple of decades of 6-6 type teams.

That's fine, but saying a player is a top three positions for one game is silly. What about the other 13 we played where our dts dominated? My point, there is a reason no punter has made the hall. They are important but not enough to get upset if somebody decommits. We can just get one in Australia.

Totally your comparison, not mine. I'm simply arguing the importance of a "great" punter. And when you visit the HOF in Canton take note of a kid from Southern Miss, punter Ray Guy.

My bad, there is one. How many other positions. I bet there are more coaches than punters. I bet there are more announcers than punters.

A punter plays 5 plays a game. Not a requirement for a ship. I'm mind ****ed that someone would agree that a punter is in the top three for important positions for a team.

Well, I was just about to post that Tennessee fans (under the tutelage of Gen. Neyland) will always appreciate and celebrate a good punter more than modern Bama fans... until I read the exchanges between you and TUSKtimes. :hmm: Maybe your appreciation of "The 7 Maxims" involved a stack of magazines.

So, TUSKtimes, welcome to the conversation! You bring good football smarts. Probably makes you a genius in bammerland! I think General Neyland would be proud to regard you as--intellectually--one of his bastard children. (Even while offering my sincerest "welcome"... I still have to take my shots you understand. It's an SEC family thing.)

Of course, being called a genius in bammerland, I bet you spend a lot of time explaining that, no, you can't grant three wishes.

Because we have JK Scott. You get out much?

I'm on break from posting on your board. :)
So if you didn't have Scott you shut it all down...or do you go find another punter...like other programs? And (once again),if this kid turns out not to be "great"? Eggs all in that basket, or do you allow another? Like we did with our current standout over the highly rated Thompson on scholarship?

Pretty sure medley was the best high school kicker. My point, it's ratings. No need to freak over a recruit who has done nothing l, plus it's a punter. Our punter was a walk on. No need to freak. I love maxim magazines btw and I don't need to defend myself for liking articles that are written well.

Thanks for the belated welcome. But actually, from my post count, it should explain I've been hanging out over here for a while. I'm somewhat surprised that got passed your intellectual prowess though.

Coach Bryant/Neyland would understand the true meaning of a well-positioned punt, given they clearly got that defense wins championships and nothing destroys that opportunity quicker for the better team than turnovers and short fields.

I don't think medley was rated as a number 1 kicker. I believe palardy was though.

There was a USCe game around a decade ago and our punter won it for us!

No one is saying a punter isn't a nice thing to have. I'd way rather have a good qb than punter. Especially if we are talking about a punter one time about ten years ago winning a game for us.

And you really think it will end this way? We are conducting camps as we speak and recruits will be committing soon. We only have 5 as of today, all of them have been invited to the under armor All-American game, how about you guys?

No. You're missing the point as you troll...If this is our worst recruiting loss to Bama, I'm ok with a punter being sacrificial lamb.

I think it was a USCe game. Can't remember if it was a Colquit, however.

Honestly, this decommitment hurt worse than any others for me.

Say what you want about Butch but he's right about 1 thing, the importance of special teams.

After the QB, imho, the next most important positions are kick returner, punt returner, punter...

This was a tough one...

Our current punter, who's as good as any Tennessee punter I've seen in a long, long time is a walkon. Don't lose one second of sleep over this decommit. If he was a top DT or QB or OT, yes, freak out a bit. But a punter? Nah.

I saw your post count (it triples mine). I'd just never bumped into you on a thread before. I like to keep it personal.

But on the other hand, I'm no raving extrovert--in the cyber or analog world. Neither am I a social media analyst: but I'd deduce from your post/likes ratio... that 'la.bama's won a few TN matchups lately.

Yep, it seems some of these threads are leaking worse than a Tennessee defense.

So he would not make the next Colombo. At least he does bathe on a regular basis.
