Neuheisel bashing Butch over Scott hire.

Please tell me you are joking. Have you watched our OL? They got pushed around by almost every team we played last year except TT. Our OL has been garbage ever since Butch got here.

Explain how we had a one of the best rushing attacks in school history in 2015 if our O line has been garbage

At some point every OC is an OC for the first time. He did sit in the box side by side with Debord. He coaches offense, he has been a HC. He is not alone in a box when game planning.

If ut would have put the money out there riley would have atleast listened. Im fine with the scott hire could be a improvment or a bust just a chance butch took. Think he will do just fine im sure he will have a few learning curves as would any first year OC'S.

I'm betting the fact that we're not changing the offensive system/playbook limited our choices as much as anything. I would think not getting to bring your own offense could be a deal breaker for an established OC.

Since that's the case, I've got no problem with promoting from within, and I can't think of a better in house candidate than Scott.

Scott has as much experience calling plays as Tee did when he got the gig at mighty Southern Cal. What did Neuheisel or anyone else have to say about that hire when it happened? I'm not exactly super-jealous of the Auburn hire for OC either. Seems like they might have gone 5 or 6 deep on their list before settling on that guy.

I do think we should've been able to bring in a better lineup of candidates for that QB coach or QB/Co-OC spot though.

Was just listening to SXM College sports channel 84.
The host, former Coach Rick Neuheisel said that Scott hire is very dangerous because he hasn't been an OC before.
Said we should have hired Lincoln Riley.
Said despite Butch being on hot seat that UT is big enuf name and has enuf money to get a bigger name and more experienced person at OC than Scott.
Dont know much about riley, but I'd have to agree with him.. butch just might of dug his own grave with the scott promotion.

Say what you want about Scott, I think he could end up being good. I agree, it's a huge risk, but I like the promotion of him much, much better than the hiring of Canales.

How much of that offense was Dobbs responsible for ? when Dobbs was not being Dobbs how good was this offense? You take Dobbs legs away and this offense was average at best.
Don't say we have JG starting and he can run because nobody knows for sure if he is starting and nobody know if he can run like Dobbs.

Hmmm. Out of curiosity who can name three names that are better offensive coordinator hires without consulting google?

Helfrich wasn't coming once Kelly got fired. He's safer to sit back and draw a check until Kelly gets another gig.

Why would anyone that is anyone come to UT right now. With the instability at the top and the lack of leadership to find replacements I do not blame anyone for not coming. Butch probably realized that Scott was the best he was going to be able to do. I just hope it all works out.

I think you are dead on. I think Butch nudged DeBord toward the door thinking he had a bigger name in the bag. Maybe it was Helfrich.

But, the lack of stability and competence in our administration in hiring personnel, like an AD, probably led to a different reality.

Rick has been filling his passion bucket with too many ideas he obviously took straight from Volnation.

1. Why would Lincoln Riley lateral to Tennessee? He interviewed for HC openings this off season.

2. With the instability in the AD and possible at HC, why would he have left for a job he might only have for one year?

Rick is just running out of show topics. Maybe he should cut back to a weekly podcast.

Are you saying his passion bucket is.............full?

We probably aren't better than a 7, maybe 8 , win team this year unless one of the QBs turns out to be the second coming. While I think the hire indicates that experienced coaches with options recognize the Butch is captaining a sinking ship, it's also a good opportunity for Scott where he'll get to check a box on his resume while playing with house money.

I am most impressed that VN can actually spell Neuheisel.

I had to copy & paste.

it is spelled correctly isn't it?

I am putting on my orange tinted half full glasses and going out on a limb and stating that I think Scott will be a fine OC. No, I don't have any basis for it other than a fat gut feeling. Maybe it is too full of dark beer, who knows. However, I can't believe he didn't pick up quite a bit this past year and I doubt he was asleep at the wheel at UM. Go VOLS and go Larry Scott. GBO.
