Netflix

Anybody watched the series The Standups? It's just a series of 8 stand up comics doing a 30 minute set. Mike Bargatze is the first one, he was hilarious.

Deon Cole was funny too, the other 6 weren't.

The first guy was hilarious. The rest have been mediocre to ok.

Norm McDonald's Hitler's Dog was Norm level genius. When he's on, even when he messes up you think it's hilarious. Gotta be a fan tho. Started the Stand-Ups and loved the first episode.

Hitler's Dog was awesome. His delivery is incredible. The bit about Monet had me rolling.

I thought the Norm McDonald special was just OK. Imaybe I was expecting too much from him.

Never had seen a special from him. Became a fan when I'd see clips of his on Comedy Central and it's previous incarnation (when they still showed stand-up...kinda like MTV and videos). Loved his timing and hooks. Then he was on SNL and the rest of his career happened. Always better in small doses was my take but this special had me rolling every second. Gotta check out some of these better efforts that made you disappointed in this one.

Just watched Travelers. Took two episodes before it hooked me but really enjoyed it. Not your typical time traveler story

Friends From College. Bad reviews...don't know what they watched, it's hilarious!

Is there a way to get the star reviews back for each show? Has anyone else noticed that now they show a % of match instead of 5 potential stars?

Either way, they are pretty bad at predicting what I'll like. I wish they'd just show IMDb ratings

Yeah there was a notification a month or so ago about it. Don't know why they changed it. Probably thought low rated shows were losing potential viewers.

I read an article that claimed 5 star and 10 point rating systems are deeply flawed. People are inconsistent about how they assign points was one of the arguments, IIRC. Not sure I buy it.

Do people actually let ratings influence what they do and don't watch?

Yes. There is too much stuff out there. It's how I filter content. If it's subject matter I like, I'm not that picky, but if it's a show about soccer Moms, it needs to have a high IMDb rating to convince me to try it.

Apparently. I don't give a crap what other people think of something. I'll check it out if I want.

It reminds me of mega-yelpers. Too many people letting others dictate their lives. But, to each their own I guess.

Why do you think referencing customer ratings is the equivalent of letting others dictate your life?

I don't know how true it is, but apparently Amy Schumer blamed her special doing poorly on "trolls who gave me a 1 star review" and there was a lot of talk that she helped push Netflix to change it.

Not sure I buy it but there was speculation there was a correlation between the two things. I'm not sure how having the same trolls give her thumbs down helps her case either.

I guess that makes sense. I don't think I've ever checked a rating to help me decide, I'll check if somethings weird and I love it just to compare after. My tastes are kind of all over the place so if certain people in the real world and some on here recommend something I'll check it out. Generally I'll read what it's about and if sounds interesting I'll watch it.

Yeah, i figured your unique tastes influence your opinion of ratings.

I figured out a system and it works pretty well, but it took me a little bit of trial and error on how to use IMDb ratings.

Well you went a little extreme with it. Lol
