Netflix

The problem with comparing critic scores to audience scores is the audience pretty much only watches if they like Chappelle, skewing the score positively. Personally, I liked it but him pretending to run off the stage every two minutes got old fast.

Only 9 critics is insignificant. Looks like it started 0/5 and has gone 3 for its last 4 so maybe that critic score will continue to improve. Interestingly, one of his poor scores came from National Review.

I love Dave, but I honestly didn’t think it was that great. It had some hilarious bits as always, but it seems like the number of his jokes that just simply aren’t funny increases with every one of these specials.
Laughed all the way throughout...even with the setup moments.

of the 3 on Netflix I give this one the slight lead over #1. Both were better than the second one IMHO.

The comment about audience scores is true for almost anything that gets reviewed on RT - watched because they like Marvel or Tom Cruise or Tom Clancy stories or...still, audience scores made up of people who were drawn to a movie because of something/someone they like can range from high to low. Over 12,000 reviews that are uniformly positive is more than a selection bias issue.

To a much smaller extent this is true, but I watch every Star Wars movie and I am not a Star Wars "fan". Parents get dragged to Marvel movies and they don't necessarily like them. Chappelle is a one-man show, unlike Tom Cruise. Tom Cruise doesn't write the movie, he doesn't (usually) direct them, there are other actors, there is editing done by someone else...all these factors that can make the movie dislikable even if you love Tom Cruise. I don't really like Tom Cruise, but I went to the last MI and enjoyed it. Chappelle's standup is just Chappelle. I don't like Jeff Dunham so I don't watch his specials. Pretty much everybody knows if they like DC or not, and if they don't like him, they don't watch.

When was the last comedy special you watched from a comic you already knew you didn't like?

Captain Marvel tanked with audience scores...but did well with critics.

Right, audiences at large are far less likely to have a predictably satisfied opinion of something based on it being MCU. There are too many factors aside from franchise, and franchise is not as likely to determine their feelings.

If you read the critic reviews apparently they too already liked Chappelle yet they concluded this particular version was sub par to their preferred view of him. Virtually all fans felt differently. Anyway you slice it, 99% with over 12K ratings shows a divergence of opinion.

Who gets madder than Star Wars fans when a Star Wars movie sucks?

Do you remember fans of a comedian being angry after a special wasn't good? You're comparing forms that are not comparable.

You're wrong on this and all you have is a comment that lack substance like this^

You're just making things up and getting all pissy when people don't take your word for it.

Should have known better to even engage. Carry on

I didn't get pissy because you disagree, I fired back because you said something condescending. Up until that point, it was just a normal discussion. Then you blame it on me, you hypocrite.

sure sounds pissy to me.

Again, I'm not saying that I'm not coming at you. I'm saying it's not because we disagreed. It's because you came at me. Grow up or don't. I don't care. Just don't put it on me when you act like a child over a discussion about a comedy special.

Suggesting that what you are stating as a fact is really just your opinion is coming at you? And I'm the one that needs to grow up? Interesting.

If you had merely said "That is a matter of opinion" then I wouldn't have fired back. This is not what happened. Your comment was a jeer. I responded with a jeer. Then you cried foul. I can own my part in it. You can reread it, although you shouldn't have to since it happened within the last hour. I didn't think either comment was that bad, but I got irked when you were trying to act like I'm the dick.

As a critic if you want to keep your job you’re not going to submit a review for this, and if you do it better be negative. The exact **** he talks about in the show is what will happen to you.
