Is this guy "juiced" into the program or something? He doesn't seem very talented, and I was wondering if there was anyway to get some competition heated up for his seat.

Since the previous game ran over and LFS decided to take a five minute break instead of going to the game in progress I had Bob Kessling on. Then when the visual did come on, it synced perfectly with Bob's play-calling so I left him on. His lack of skill in this area is amplified without his color guy (Bert Bertelkamp was out with the flu).

Admittedly, I am not very knowledgeable in the realm of college hoops or, honestly, sports in general. Even from my limited background, Kessling comes off as a dimwit with a media personality that reminds me of CPF (no trying to bring him into this, but he is about as charming as a rock in front of the cameras/mics).

Perhaps, I was looking for faults tonight as the first thing Bob said when the pre-game show started was that a UT win coupled with a Vandy loss would land us with a 2-seed/bye in the SEC tourney. Even I knew that wasn't true and was upset by his lack of knowledge on such an important matter right before game time. Then when he came back on after the first break he corrected himself. However, instead of an apology or acknowledgment of the previous mistake he just said "of course Vanderbilt has locked the 2-seed..." Like what he had just spent 3 minutes explaining didn't happen.

So that was the start, which was followed by many mistakes that are very evident with the benefit of seeing the game at the exact same time Bob's calling it.

Like I say, I'm no expert in this area...but do you guy know if Bob Kessling is our answer for the long term? I'm sure there is better talent to be had for play calling here on Ol' Rocky Top.

I personally think we need to grab some of Mr. Ward's DNA to see if we can clone him. Bob Kesling can't hold John Ward's jock strap.

I never have liked him.....too many mistakes while announcing both basketball and football. I guess he must know something on some people in the athletic office at UT.

Forget the ambition of finding someone as good as John Ward. I'm just calling for something a little better that what we have now.

No kidding...having to listen to Kessling is the absolute worst....I know there is no way to substitute for Ward...but Jesus Christ, is Kessling the best that UT can get to braoadcast FB & BB games?

I agree that Kessling isn't really anything special, but Ward was never one of my favorites either.

The only times I REALLY get frustrated with Bob are when he is calling a good play by the other team, and he actually sounds EXCITED it happened.

Agreed. I was never a huge fan of Ward either, but I was ok to listen to him if I had no choice. Kesling on the other hand is awful. I have always wondered who at UT owed him a favor for him to land that job.

:eek:lol:I know . . . I know. He had a unique style and was fun to listen to sometimes, but he also was annoyingly slow on his calls and just was flat out awkward sometimes. The old Johnny Majors Show was some of the most painful television of all time.

Does that mean you now pause awkwardly in the middle of things and leave listeners hanging too? :p

That is a habit I just now broke. I also described going to the kitchen as "he's twisting and turning... what did he do? He went to the fridge that's all he did" :p

Didn't Bob work for JW as a spotter or something and them more or less inherited the job when JW retired?

I've heard far worse than Kesling. Any of you ever listen to the radio calls from some Big 10 and Pac 10 schools? At least Kesling sounds like he's interested in the game being played.

Here in Atlanta, Wes Durham does both Tech games on Saturdays and Falcons games on Sundays. A shame Keith couldn't have done both jobs, too.
