You guys who think Butch Jones will ever leave Tennessee on his own are nuts! You have to take the guy at his word when he says this is his dream job! Geez!

you can never trust what a coach says have we not learned that..

they will go after harbough again with more money n he will go n win a nc championship in yr two n volnation will still be talking about... wait till next year......

Ridiculous.

x 1000000000000000000000000000

He has better things to do...like winning on Saturday.... then to dispel stupid rumors.

He has recruited lights out, but he is still unproven. Partially b/c he doesn't have all the athletes he needs to prove he can get the job done.

umm Carroll is more successful than Harbaugh he has won the big one on both levels now. Harbaugh has done neither

He was HC coach at the New York Jets for one season 1994.

1997 - 1999 he coached the New England Patriots.

He was fired from both jobs. His combined NFL Head Coaching record was 33 -31. That is nothing close to Harbaugh ' s record.

He was hired at USC Dec 2000, his 1st and only HC job st the college level.

He has had a great career since 2001. He only took a college gig at USC because he was fired from his 2 NFL HC jobs.

With the success Carroll and Harbaugh are having in the NFL , neither one is going to be looking for a college gig.

Not the type of personality you need to be successful in college

If Michigan knows this, they will stay clear of Harbaugh

I would imagine names brought up for the Michigan job would be

Sumlin
Miles
Harbaugh( Michigans Gruden)
Jones
Petrino
Saban
Fisher

Now deduce which ones they have an actual shot at and you can see where there is always that chance Jones jumps

You can scratch the last three names:
Petrino (risk/reward imbalance)
Saban old and set
Fisher at a winner & ground zero for recruiting
Sumlin doubt it
Jones seriously doubt it. He Bleeds Orange!

I would add:
Oregon/Aub OC
AL/OK DC
Dark Horse candidates:
Cutcliffe age an issue
Mark Stoops UK
Brohm Western KY
Beilema Ark if wins continue
Arkansas State current head coach...this always works out!
kiffen/dooley combo!

If he is as big of a butt as they say he is, its hard to see how he was successful at Stanford

College coaches tend to get more control and autonomy than coaches do in the pros. I think if Harbaugh wanted a reason to leave the 49ers, Michigan could be his easy way out.

If Butch Jones delivers a bowl game and ends the streak w Florida then we can discuss taking further actions required to retain him long term until then Tennessee best interest is seeing results on the field more wins=more money which can then be used to ensure we retain "the best coaching staff in America"

Maybe I'm a little naive, but if Jones bolted for Mich I don't think I would ever believe another word a coach says in public. Maybe thats just a symptom of how much I've bought in to Jones.

I don't see Jones going anywhere anytime soon. The man left a smaller program and came to one of the biggest in the Nation. Michigan might have a bigger fan base and a larger stadium but they're in a weak conference that has really dwindled down over the years. Right now the SEC, Big 12 or Pac 12 is the places to be in a Coaches aspect.

You guys may think I am crazy but I think if they'll be any SEC coaches leave or fired the two I'd go with is Mark Richt and Will Muschamp. Will Muschamp was on the hot seat last year and after Kentucky just took them to over time in The Swamp you better believe all eyes are on him right now.

Mark Richt is the other Coach I'd be watching out for! I just think that Richt has gone as far as he is ever going to go in College Football. He may win some more division titles and he may very well win another SEC Championship but I just DON'T EVER see Mark Richt winning a National Championship.

Mark Richt has been at Georgia since 2001 and never won a National Title. Richt has gotten Georgia very close but has always come up a little short. We all know that in College Football that loyalty doesn't mean much anymore. I mean look at Fulmer and how he was here for 16 years and the 2nd time he goes 5-7 he's gone.
Take Georgia last year everyone thought they would win the East and possibly play for a National Title and what happened.
Georgia’s once imposing defense gave up 38 points to Clemson, 41 to LSU, 41 to Missouri, and 43 to Auburn. Only one of these games (LSU) was a win for the Bulldogs.

SEC Championships (2002, 2005)
6 SEC Eastern Division Titles (02, 03, 05, 07, 11, 12)
National Championships - "0"

We're heading in the right direction and Michigan is not. There's a good shot Brady might be gone after this season (2 years left on his contract - very similar to CBJ: $3m/yr for 6 years). UM is the winningest program in college football and I could see them going after their "favorite son" in Butch. I actually don't think Butch will do well enough this year to attract their attention but, if they're wise about building for the future, they might float a few inquiries his way.

I hope Hart is on top of this. If CBJ were to get the Vols to 8 wins this season, I'm sure the Wolverines would come calling. :thud:

The only way Michigan comes calling is if the Vols win 8 or more this year. Michigan will probably try to pluck a really successful coach from a non power conference.

That's exactly what I'm thinking. I truly believe the third time will be the charm if he is offered the Mich job again.

Good possibility! Let's be honest here, he has merely maintained the program saban built. He won a NC because of what saban had done the previous three years. They were 8-5 and 9-4 the next two years and then was very successful the next two years going to two bowl games winning one and losing the other one...the NCG!

Either he sees the west as getting too competitive and he chooses to go home to Michigan, in a weaker conference, but as a rebuilding project which he has never really done before or he chooses to stay at the place saban built, and just maintain!

He made OSU much better, but IDK if you could say he built that program!

I think he stays! JMO!

After last night, Dan Mullins needs to go ahead and send his resume up to MI...

Mississippi State is a school that will always have ups and downs, take the high road and leave while you have the chance, before you are back to calling offense for someone else.

don't worry about Butch, too many other coaches in the league that will be looking to get / forced out.
