That's a cesspool of a gym with terrible sight lines for fans. Long past being "quirky" with benches at the end, etc, Memorial is not Fenway Park. Greatly enjoyed the game there a couple of years back with Knecht leading the way. A long time Vandy fan with season tix in our row left early(big Vol contingent there) and commented on the way out that it was the worst she'd ever seen!

Vandie "gym" is little more than anything antiquated garage, worst anywhere. Memorial Mockery, no less. Flush the commode-doors into their own cesspool.

The rivalry during the Mears-Skinner years was intense. Mears would stroll up and down in front of the Vandy student section pre-game and get them lathered up! Some great players in those early years even before Bernie-Ernie. Jimmy England, Billy Justus, Boerwinkle!!

And Howard Bayne 6'6" 230 was Chairman of the Boards and all around enforcer in the early 60s. I recall one game at Vandy I think their player was Snake Grace, details vague but Howard was NOT happy with the Snake.

I know it’s kind of a dump, but I’d love too see a game there one day. I’m a sucker for odd, quirky setups. On TV, it’s hard to even conceptualize what’s going on in that arena.

Went to college with Snake’s younger brother Garland at Belmont down the street from Memorial. Small college ball was a fun diversion. But did so with earphones from my transistor radio blaring John Ward lots of times. Then would go back to my room to watch those late night replays. Life was good.

In 1968 I went to see Carole King concert at Vandy gym....First time, I thought, what a neat place for a concert, as we were just above her 15 rows back..(great, great show).. n I could see her clearly!
Years later I went back for a game and was like... "they gonna' play BB here"????? Sad place!!
